MIA: Where is Vitaliy?! http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16151/mia-where-is-vitaliy Thu, 08 Dec 2016 02:17:28 +0000 matt_gh2 16151@/talks/discussions It's been 4 or 5 days since anyone's heard from our dear friend and fearless leader Vitaliy. Inquiring minds are beginning to wonder where he is...and what he's doing? I've come up with some ideas - let's vote on which one you think it is and see who's right.

Option 1: He has a new girlfriend and they're on a 72 hour sex marathon consisting of nothing except sex, pizza, and vodka.

Option 2: He has joined the Proletariat revolution, and is currently entrenched somewhere with comrads, pinned down in a bunker taking heavy fire from some capitalists. Cell phone battery has died, so he can't access personal-view.com remotely. Waiting for backup to return home safely.

Option 3: He has decided to take a few days to chill and relax, waiting to see how long it takes for us to come looking for him. While giving his mind a rest and taking a long bath, he has a eureka moment, discovering a way to hack the GH1 to get 12 bit 4K at 256 Mb/s!

Option 4: The new tools including spectrometer have finally arrived and he has immersed himself in equipment testing. He has lost all sense of time. When we hear from him next, he will publish results of tests.

My guess is option 1, but for our sake I'm rooting for Option 3! What do you think?

Trump's Master Persuader techniques http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16072/trumps-master-persuader-techniques Sun, 20 Nov 2016 04:59:00 +0000 CRFilms 16072@/talks/discussions

That's a good primer, read this for more:

http://blog.dilbert.com/post/126589300371/clown-genius

A few examples from the article.

Trump's saying he's worth $10 billion is an "anchor" in your mind. It's big, round, outrageous and therefore easy to remember.

Trumps insults are what Adams calls "Linguistic Kill Shots", not random insults. They're engineered to have a visual component, ie Jeb does look "Low Energy" and are built for conformation bias so when he does something weak in the future it reinforces the nick-name.

Trump does something called "Pacing and Leading". When he started with the birther issue, he was "pacing" the people, matching their high emotional state. Once he paces them, he owns them. Then he can slowly, back n forth take them to less extreme positions. It worked to a T when he had the birther event where he had on veteran after veteran talking about how good Trump was, then he goes, "Obama's a citizen, forget birtherism". All his supporters laughed and moved on.

That's how he was able to win. His verbal skill set is second to none.

To figure out how to do it yourself, read the books recommended here:

Anti-Trump Protests http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16056/anti-trump-protests Wed, 16 Nov 2016 13:06:04 +0000 Sangye 16056@/talks/discussions Every night for the past week, there have been large anti-Trump protests in major cities around the country. In my relatively small home city of Portland Oregon, 4000+ people have attended some of these demonstrations. I've been documenting the protests and put together this montage with some of the footage:

16,000 people have RSVP'd in under two days for a mass demonstration in Portland on Inauguration Day. If anywhere near that many people show up, it will set a record for the largest demonstration in Portland history. Many other cities are expecting similar events. In Washington D.C, a huge number of people are expected to march to the mall in protest of his proposed policies.

  • PV does not have ads, "sponsors" or anything like such crap injecting stuff.
  • We even do not have auto playing video ads what became trend in last few months. :-)
  • Each month we pay for dedicated server hosting and it this sum is not small, and additional daily backup located outside of hoster network (for safety).
  • We don't have big team to support site. No admins, paid moderators, etc. All this time is invested in keeping this community alive.
  • Remember to support regularly, even with very small amounts, if you are in economic trouble.

Where we are going:

  • We are making gear reviews and slowly improving in it
    • One gimbal review posted. For now we have at review two gimbals and Exoskeleton, more items coming after IBC.
  • We are improving our deals and will add new partners and good items soon
    • Thor cages added, few new monitors added, big update coming in September
  • We plan to make this year systematic guides for basic lighting, audio. Something what you can compare to good book.
    • In September we plan to start with updated and improved book list.
  • We'll also have some software updates focusing on new features and becoming more tablet and mobile friendly
    • FAQs will be updated in coming month and some video issues due to Flash usage fixed and moved to modern tech.
  • We have new video contests coming
    • Stay tuned.

We need your help, remember to donate using orange Buy Now button above this page!

Question for timelapse photographers http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/16017/question-for-timelapse-photographers Wed, 09 Nov 2016 06:49:16 +0000 MischaB 16017@/talks/discussions Hello everyone,

I'm working on my graduation project, I want to create the following, and I'd like to hear how you think about it;

"A mobile app, with information about how to make the best timelapses, using any technique (1080p, 4k, HDR, stereoscopic 3d etc) with tips and tricks for the settings."

It will not be an app that makes the timelapse, nor will it be an app that tells you exactly which settings to use; it should be more of a reference work, a helping hand.

Now I'm trying to use the design thinking method to build this idea, so that's why I need opinions. What do you guys think? Is it worth working on? What do you think should definetely be included or excluded? I'm thinking about an app because I suppose it's nice to have it with you when you're shooting a timelapse, but maybe that's a wrong assumption?

The first is my vlog. For starters I consider big name vloggers like jesse wellens, jon Olsson and will soon have a huge new casey neistat primer and study. I am the grumpy old man of youtube- some quite funny.

The National Heart Foundation makes a shocking admission that will make you wonder whether this has all been a big fat lie. ABC Australia's Science Unit

Dr Stephen Sinatra

"Cholesterol is really not the villain. I mean, we need it to live. The problem is cholesterol is involved in a repair process. Look, cholesterol is found at the scene of the crime, it's not the perpetrator." ..from the transcript

Almost one million people tuned into science program Catalyst's (994,000) expose of the myth of the dangers of high cholesterol and high saturated fat consumption..The Australian

A leading public health physician is warning the ABC not to air a second program on cholesterol, saying it could result in deaths. This is about anti-cholesterol drugs known as statins, which are widely used in Australia.

The chair of the Advisory Committee on the Safety of Medicines has written to the ABC in a private capacity, warning the program might cause people not to take their drugs. ABC News

I am one consumer who spends $41.50 a month on statins, hoping they will keep me healthy. The statins cause me muscle pain on top of the wallet pain. 15 years ago, my mother's doctor stopped taking his statins. Last year, my own doctor stopped as well.

There are regular TV ads warning us not to stop taking our statins.

Lots of my fellow Australians will be waiting for Part II where the Catalyst program will address the issue of the world's most prescribed drug in history.

The Australian Medical Association has said it's time we had this debate.

Differences between original video and Youtube/Vimeo video http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15810/differences-between-original-video-and-youtubevimeo-video Wed, 28 Sep 2016 15:33:26 +0000 Brian_Siano 15810@/talks/discussions A lawyer friend of mine asked me an interesting question. She wanted to know if there was a way of determining whether a video acquired from an online source (say, YouTube or Vimeo) was the original video, i.e., what the camera shot.

I said that services like YouTube and Vimeo usually re-compress the video for Internet playback, so if one captured the playback, it'd definitely be different. But, some services allow people to download the original uploaded video.

So, I'd like to ask everyone: Is there some characteristic (like bitrate) that we can check to see if the video is the "camera original" or if it's been processed by something else?

Is GH2 worth keeping? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15777/is-gh2-worth-keeping Thu, 22 Sep 2016 04:46:57 +0000 Riker 15777@/talks/discussions As a hobbyist, you know how it goes, you get more into the hobby of photography and videography, then you get "cold" then after a while more interested again...etc.

As I travel a bit more, lugging camera equipment is something I would like to avoid. GH2 is still good enough for my needs. But the portability...it bothers me. If I want to travel light, I only take the kid lens, 14-140. It has that "better" OIS, versatile zoom range, sharp enough. Sucks at night but ok, I can live with that. But having GH2 with 14-140 makes little sense, with all of my other lenses at home. It's like having a fancy bridge camera with me.

So I was thinking about selling it? But for some reason, being that is my first "dslr", I have second thoughts about being without it, lol. The price drop on GH2 is just...criminal, haha. I can't expect too much from the sale, with GH5 around the way, it would be sort of a miracle to manage to sell the 3 generation older camera for a good price.

What should I do? I see some people still laud GH2 video quality. I wouldn't like to be without it. Did Lumix come up with a bridge camera that's on par with GH2 video? I looked around and saw their FZ72, can't believe the zoom range, but the video examples I looked at on YouTube look...weak. Any options for this situation?

Sony's new PlayStation 4 Pro comes without UHD-BluRay drive http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15682/sonys-new-playstation-4-pro-comes-without-uhd-bluray-drive Wed, 07 Sep 2016 16:33:40 +0000 karl 15682@/talks/discussions Do you remember how the PlayStation 2 booted the success of DVD drives? How the PlayStation 3 became the first affordable BluRay drive, helping the BluRay to win the battle over the "HD-DVD"?

Now, Sony's new PlayStation 4 Pro comes (in November) with significantly improved, 4k/HDR capable hardware - but only an ordinary BluRay drive, so it cannot replay UHD BluRays. Epic Fail.

That's even more bewildering as competitor MicroSoft built an UHD BluRay drive even in its much lower powered XBox S.

All my equipment got stolen on a train last week - now what? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15659/all-my-equipment-got-stolen-on-a-train-last-week-now-what Sun, 04 Sep 2016 10:45:48 +0000 raphaelfranco 15659@/talks/discussions Last week I was traveling on the train from Amsterdam to Berlin. My bag with all my gear was in the compartment above my seat, I looked down to answer a phone call and when I looked up a minute later the bag was gone. The police on the train said it was a probably a team who had followed me on the train from the platform. Of course I felt stupid for losing it, but I also decided not to dwell on what I couldn't change and find my way back on my feet as efficiently as possible. I won't go into the whole story, but I have been shooting a documentary for the last 4 years on my GH2. Personal-view was a huge asset in helping me assemble the kit I have been using with what have felt like great results. But all my camera equipment, lenses, sound gear and my 16TB harddrive was in the bag. Thankfully I have a backup HD in NYC, so I only lost a few interviews and a couple days of work, but I didn't have insurance. So my gear is gone.

I have actually taken the loss better than I would have expected. I've been able to keep a positive attitude, and a freelance job came out of nowhere the day my stuff was stolen so that I will be able afford to replace most of what I lost. In total I lost around $6,500 worth of gear. Now I need to replace it to be able to keep shooting. I will buy another GH2 for sure, but I also thought it would be interesting to post about what happened and hear if there are any suggestions from the community about possible upgrades, so that the misfortune actually becomes an opportunity to enhance what I was working with. Of course I will need something that can cut with my hacked GH2 footage, but a lot obviously changes in 4 years... so if any of you could put yourselves in my situation, what purchases would you make to update and replace your kit?

Here are the lenses I lost:

  • SLR Magic 12mm
  • Lumix 20mm pancake
  • Lumix 25mm 1.4
  • Lumix 12-35mm
  • Olympus 45mm
  • Olympus 40-150
  • Rokinon 85mm

and the sound gear I had:

  • Sennheiser MKH 40
  • Sennheiser wireless Lav kit w/ a Countrymen Lav mic
  • Zoom H6

Many thanks for any suggestions.
