Windshield mount problems http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6930/windshield-mount-problems Thu, 09 May 2013 18:39:59 +0000 Riker 6930@/talks/discussions I have 2 suction cup mounts at my disposal. One is a DIY version made around this;

http://www.floordot.com//wp-content/uploads/2012/09/08-0102-Double-Suction-Cup-30118_300x300.jpg

And another one is a $5 eBay type.

When I put GH2+pancake on either of the 2 and mount it on my car's windshield (inside the car), I get unwatchable, shaky footage. I've watched some YouTube videos shot from the same position and they seem significantly less shaky than mine. Believe me, no stabilizers would fix the footage, because the shakes too intense, almost vibrating. When I get on the straight road, the footage is somewhat usable.

Any ideas how to get a stable windshield point of view footage?

Make a short film in 48 hours http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7070/make-a-short-film-in-48-hours Sun, 26 May 2013 01:25:37 +0000 ahbleza 7070@/talks/discussions I am somewhat sleep deprived right now, as for me there are two and a half hours to go before submissions close for the New Zealand 48 hour Film Festival. I'm waiting for a final render of my team's entry. This year, there are over 800 teams around NZ who are all trying to battle sleep deprivation, technical issues and general team problems to produce a seven minute film from start to finish in 48 hours.

The rules are simple: you are given a name (Vic Meyer, an insomniac), a line of dialog, a prop and a camera shot, and one of 14 different categories (assigned at random.) You then start writing the film, casting your actors, going to locations, shooting footage and editing the results. Many teams also prepare original music. All footage has to be shoot on the same weekend period.

Here's more information: http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/8715681/Return-of-the-48-hour-film-clash

I'm really pleased with my team's result, and can't wait to see how it does in the contest.

The stage of DSLR cameras in the future http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6662/the-stage-of-dslr-cameras-in-the-future Wed, 10 Apr 2013 16:13:48 +0000 Manu4Vendetta 6662@/talks/discussions This thread isnt for talk or praise the quality of the Pocket Camera that are already well known and there are two thread of it, its for analyze and maybe a little speculate because I havent a crystal ball and dont know anyone who works within the industry film or camera makers to speak firmly of things to come.

Some time ago I've been thinking that one day they will see cameras with dreamy benefits available to our pockets and BMC has taken the first big step.

After impact caused by Pocket Camera at NAB seems as if all DSLR cameras literally stay in the past, the film market and videographic intermediate, semi-pro and professional low budget now has a gear of very low cost, then I wonder how that argument would have for example someone who wants today to buy a 5D MKIII about U$3000 for videos and films when for a third of the cost you have a body that offers RAW with 13 EVF of DR. Who less would suffer possibly are cameras under US$1,000 where the user amateur looking a camera for photo and with video to record the dog pacing on the garden, the family eating BBQ, an afternoon at the beach or something without more pretense, but I dont know if that market segment is sufficient for these traditional manufacturers.

I assume that traditional manufacturers must have a headache because they did not expect this movement. Anybody what will buy a camera for video a film low cost will prefer a DSLR digital -regardless the record format- to a camera to record in RAW?

BMC's movement beneficent the market because it will be forced to Sony, Panasonic, Canon and Nikon to compete with similar or better gear features, that or leave the market for inematographers and filmakers low budget because they havent argument to compete equal now.

PS, sorry for my poor english.

I urgently need ORIGINAL photographic Screengrabs (RAW preferred) of YOUR country's TV 'electronic programme guide' (EPG).

I require stuff like platform guide overviews Freesat, Freeview, Canal Plus, Viasat, etc... for each country (exactly as the example shot below for Sky) so any of you who have the time (it'll only take a few minutes!) can you take a picture of the screen when you press the GUIDE button on your TV's remote.

Its for a global television project Im involved in. Trying to collect every TV box programme guide.

email: nick@driftwoodproductions.co.uk or dropbox/web link me to your images.

I would love to see them from all over the world but Europe is particular urgent :-)

Try to shoot at 50 shutter for PAL Europe and 60ss for for NTSC. Tripod it too if you cant keep a steady shot.

Satellite, Cable, or Terrestrial EPG guides only (not online EPGs)

Many thanks.

Nick

PS DON'T post them here as VK will get annoyed.

here is just an idea, maybe is doable, maybe not, i dont know...

there are ANAMORPHIC PRISMs that are selled for laser beams, they are made of optic glass, and they are as small as to fit inside an adapter this one is only 12mm http://www.ebay.com/itm/230966479114

they work under the following concept: Alt text

so, the question is if they mess too much with the optics and if they are big enough to reach all the light rays?? any thoughts?

Question about FOV and DOF in relation to M43 and metabones speedbooster http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6705/question-about-fov-and-dof-in-relation-to-m43-and-metabones-speedbooster Tue, 16 Apr 2013 07:11:12 +0000 andrevanberlo 6705@/talks/discussions I've seen a questions in the speedbooster topic and saw a similar question in a DPreview thread.

"Has anyone heard if there will be a Speed Booster for m43 LENSES on m43 bodies"

people say it can't be done because the m43 lens is built to cover a m43 sensor and this does seem logical. However (and i'm probably thinking way off here) the m43 has a cropfactor. FF does not. I always thought the FF lenses were so expensive because the entire lens has to be perfect as the entire image falls on the sensor. Where a lens designed for a cropfactor camera needs to be sharp mostly in center and not on the outside as that will not hit the sensor anyway.

So my thought was, if a GH3 has a cropfactor of about 2X, doesn't that mean that part of the total image is cropped? If so then i don't think that question for a m43-m43 speedbooster is such a strange question. As only part of the image actually hits the sensor.

So a speedbooster (i know, probably impossible) would then widen the FOV and increase DOF on m43 lenses and decrease the F-stop.

Off course there will be a lot of vignetting but still when i buy a 50mm lens for m43 that 50mm is what it would be on a full frame camera, we get a cropped version on the m43 camera but the full 50mm image has to be there for us to crop our image from.

In this video they do it the other way around: cropsensor-lens on FF camera

Could someone please explain where i'm wrong in my thinking?

Q: Shian, are you really as much of an arrogant asshole in person as you are on the forums?

A: You've spent a lot of time around me. Do you think I'm an arrogant?

Q: No, I think... Wait, did you just ask yourself to ask yourself a question about yourself? Doesn't that seem incredibly egotistical?

A: Probably. Answer the question.

Q: Well... Outspoken? Definitely. Opinionated? Absolutely. Arrogant? Well, I could see how you might come off that way, but it's only because you care so much.

A: About what?

Q: Gremlins.

A: Right... Wait, did you say Gremlins? You mean, like, "Gremlins" the movie?

Q: No. Little people. Like the ones in the" Wizard of Oz."

A: Oh, you mean dwarves. They're called dwarves.

Q: No, not all of them. Some are just people in midget suits.

A: Are you high right now?

Q: Does it show?

A: A little. But seriously, how did we get on this subject anyway?

Q: I'm just terrified of Gremlins.

A: Are we talking about the m--?

Q: No, little people! They freak me out... and they kinda turn me on a little. Ever been with one?

A: Not since college. Why are you afraid of little people?

Q: Why, if I'm the "Q" in this scenario, are you asking all the fucking questions?

A: Does it bother you?

Q: A little. Seems awfully arrogant.

m43 + Anamorphic = secret purpose missed? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6638/m43-anamorphic-secret-purpose-missed Mon, 08 Apr 2013 14:37:51 +0000 Micah 6638@/talks/discussions I woke up with a crazy I idea this morning, so forgive me--I gotta let it out.

Why does Anamorphic exist? Anamorphic came about as a way to squeeze more resolution out of existing cameras and film stock. Couldn't go wider, so why not spread the information taller? Then print or project it corrected. Takes some crazy lens design, but, ok...it worked! Somewhat.

Today people are plinking around with anamorphic because of the aberrations and quirks of the process, which they associate with some really amazing films. Or at least some amazing looking films.

Well, why not think about it in terms of overcoming a technical limitation again? The same one that it was created for: resolution.

Lost of people want more. The new cheap BMC on the front page has everybody excited, so obviously the desire for resolution is there.

How tough would it be to hack the m43 cameras to spit out a full sensor read out? Even half resolution would be interesting. Full would be double 4k.

That plus anamorphic lenses = sleeping giant 8k?

Maybe it's not technically possible. In my mind, it seems there are indicators it is though. The sensor will spit out a section of 100% view at a damned good frame rate--how about the whole thing?

Maybe I'm just dreaming. Just an idea. Putting it out there for people who have the know how.
