UPDATE

Doesn't work any more with video, my precious precious bandwith

intro: by no means I master code, html or anything related... maybe just stupidity :D
I like to find new ways, easier ways (other than stupid I'm lazy as hell) to do whatever I need/want to do.
google drive gives you 15 Gb of storage, that's 4 times dropbox's offer. dropbox it is very easy to link and embed, not so G drive.

in your google drive, select the image (still or motion) "sharing" options and change it from private to "anyone with the link"

then copy the link something like this https://docs.google.com/file/e/0Bxdrjp4jb-YsOHTjQWlqa0x3LWc/edit?usp=sharing

take the long sequence of letters and numbers and pasted at the end of this http://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=

so would look something like this http://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=0Bxdrjp4jb-YsOHTjQWlqa0x3LWc

if it is a still image you can now just embed it wherever you want, i.e. in this forum's (markdown) post ![text]•http://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=0Bxdrjp4jb-YsOHTjQWlqa0x3LWc changing the "•" for "( ... )"

if it is a video it's a bit more complicated and google is very attached to its bandwith, anyhow the easy way - tested in .flv, mp4 and .mov videos - go to this video link generator paste your link and choose title, size and flash player. probably depends on site and browser configuration but I got good results with HTML5+flash

that's it, if you've got better way please share ;)

gashô

PS - though in leaving a nice example of what's this technology trick good for ;)

What if GH2 could render image sequence instead of compressed video in QuickTime container? I mean this would be great since each frame is compressed as an independent JPEG image, and then into QuickTime file. Improving sensor dynamic range http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7330/improving-sensor-dynamic-range Sat, 22 Jun 2013 23:29:30 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 7330@/talks/discussions

We have shown that multi-bit temporal oversampling with conditional reset and variable duration of sampling intervals can be used to increase the dynamic range of image sensors by effectively extending the full well capacity. Conditional reset is necessary for good low-light sensitivity. A test chip was fabricated to implement the method, and the improvement in performance of 22dB in the case of the 3T based pixel and 23dB in the case of the 4T based pixel matches the simulation model. Our approach of pre-defined sampling intervals and conditional reset gives each pixel the optimal sampling sequence based on its light intensity without the need to add storage or decision circuits to each pixel. Since our measurements and model agree, we predict that we can achieve over 80dB dynamic range in a single shot capture with a 1.4um pixel.

"Professional" Firmware for G/GH series idea http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7316/professional-firmware-for-ggh-series-idea Fri, 21 Jun 2013 09:53:36 +0000 neokoo 7316@/talks/discussions We know G/GH series hardware is generally capable of more than what official firmwares provide. Default firmwares leave much to be desired in enthusiast and professional use. These firmwares still appear to be designed mostly for consumers.

Could Panasonic solve this problem by selling official "Professional Firmware for G/GH series" aimed at professional and enthusiast users? Such firmware could add higher video quality options, ability to adjust gamma curves, ability to record ProRes or raw format video files, high quality HDMI output, and so on, as requested by users.

This would allow Panasonic to continue selling G/GH series in consumer market, but bring in extra revenue from customers willing to pay for professional firmware. Also, it might bring extra revenue from a portion of second-hand sales of existing cameras, as professional users buy them and upgrade firmware to their needs.

What do you think? Is there any point in asking Panasonic to do something like this?

Some are special because they're timeless, others because they were timely when published and some because they contain the definitive explanation for something.

P-V.com has become big (enormous!) and almost un-browseable. To access the best treasures within the site, I was thinking that , (rather than the sticky flag you get on forums) a Best of Personal-View could be produced and published as, say, a Pay-Per-View revenue earner on a different site, an e-Book, even a paper book or a yearly mag.

This site seems to use a content management system which I recognise and which would allow an extra field (for us users, a button), which would allow PV-ers to click on a particular post and have that post submitted to, (say, an Editorial team) for mediation and inclusion.

I'd like to see pictures, videos and footnotes from the editor explaining why the item has made it to the Best of Personal-View list.

Fri, 21 Jun 2013 18:08:44 +0000 peternap 7325@/talks/discussions I've always put my Documentaries on DVD which has worked out fairly well. I certainly don't get rich at it and still have to do contract work for most of my income...but still, it is income and I enjoy them. I also have a target audience that will buy them.

Recently Criterion Theaters was built near me and they do Art and Documentary films. They also have facilities for private showings. I've never had one in a theater and am toying with the idea of a one shot deal. The cost of the facility is $375.00 for two hours which includes the projector operator and a 47 seat theater. I'm sure not going to make money at it but it may also help DVD sales...Plus I get to strut around like Jethro Bodine.

Any thoughts on this?????

In Nature Communications today, Richard Evans from CSIRO shows how they developed a new technique to enable the data capacity of a single DVD to increase from 4.7 gigabytes up to one petabyte (1,000 terabytes). This is equivalent of 10.6 years of compressed high-definition video or 50,000 full high-definition movies.

So how did they manage to achieve such a huge boost in data storage?

Calling Brighton & Sussex p-v'ers: BBC South East Today broadcast 'BOAT' - from hacked GH2 & GH3! http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7252/calling-brighton-sussex-p-vers-bbc-south-east-today-broadcast-boat-from-hacked-gh2-gh3 Fri, 14 Jun 2013 14:12:49 +0000 driftwood 7252@/talks/discussions A dear theatre-maker mate of mine recently passed away and his dying wish was for Brighton to have its very own Open Air Theatre (BOAT). The BBC have just broadcast today (check BBC iPlayer later) on South East Today parts of the following Vimeo link (they downloaded the footage from Vimeo :-) )

I made this spur-of-the-moment video (totally unprepared) in his last get together on Brighton & Hove's Lawns near the seafront. And it was great to see the Beeb use parts of it (and that the Panasonic GHx cameras are absolutely fine for broadcast!). Adrian's words are emphatic and amazing for a man in so much pain - he died only a few days later from his disease, pancreatic cancer. He only found out he had it two months ago and I just can't imagine him not being around anymore. He was very brave to the end.

Anyway, I'm mainly calling out to local personal-viewers who are invited to come along and lend support to this Sunday's BOAT fundraiser at Brighton's Dome theatre for a night of comedy. There are still a few tickets left and all proceeds go towards the building of the theatre. If you can't make it, please try and support it or donate via the Facebook link on the Vimeo page. Your help will turn an old and secluded bowling lawn into an amazing open air theatre scheduled for opening next May - and part of the Brighton Festival. Expects lots of classic Shakespeare performances, local theatre, open-air film screenings, and even live streaming events.

The Swiss Knife Camera http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7243/the-swiss-knife-camera Thu, 13 Jun 2013 15:16:03 +0000 anthonybert 7243@/talks/discussions Hi everyone,

This post might come a bit as a surprise but I can assure that this a serious matter. You also don't know me but I'm happy to answer any questions

I would ask people to refrain themselves from being over negative or talking for the sake of it.

In my life, I have seen the evolution of cameras from Super 8 BOLEX to today's one. Did I shoot anything worth talking about, short answer is no. what I love is film and technology. Dare I say good and sexy technology!!! I wish I could make my own film but let's face it I'm probably no Spielberg, on the other hand I love design and technology and have been successful at it.

I have been reading forums since they actually exist and I was also very involved in the 35mm adapters and made my own. So my quest like many of you is to have a camera that gives you, not a cinematic image but the image you need to have for the project you are working on. But let's face it, a camera is not only about the image, is it?

Now this is the way I see things and by saying it I do not intend to offend anyone, it just feels to me like the plain truth.

Big corporation like Sony, Panasonic, Canon, Nikon will always give us a bit more or bit less but never the perfect tool as they need to ensure future sales. Of course we can hack some of them but is it a solution in the long run?

High end, Arri and Red cost a fortune and it not accessible to many of us.

Blackmagic comes around and produce a sexy little beast but it's a box with some fancy features and in my opinion it's lacking of some features that makes it not so cool to use. this is not THE CAMERA in my eyes.

So where does it leave us? I know that some beautiful film can be shot with DSLRs and other cameras but how cool would it be to have the Swiss knife camera?

So can we pull it off? Well I can't answer that. Can we try… Well we have to, don't we?

So here is my "Crazy" idea…

I would like to find the people to be able to build such a camera. Sensor Guru… Electronic Guru… Software Guru… Optic Guru… Sound/electronic Guru… Storage Guru…

I'll keep the design part for myself and another person already on it. But Ideas are always welcome.

If you believe that you are one those guys please send me a personal message. If you are but want to know more, then just ask your question on that thread so everybody can see my answer.

So that we are clear. This is not a job offer as such. There will be no salary. So you will ask, what's in it for me?

Well, that's simple, it's fully funded by myself, and for those of you elected to be part of the project, you will each get a substantial stake in the company. Remember this is not for everyone as you will need to put some time on top of your day job so you need to be very passionate about it.

I am based in UK on the M4 corridor between London and Bristol. I would like the candidate to be in this area so it would be easier for meetings but then again if you have what it takes and live outside of the UK, we can always Skype each…

The goal is pure and simple. a camera so modular that everyone should find happiness in it. The software will be open source so everyone can have go and add plugins to it.

Price target, as cheap as possible but of course those people that will put the work in will want to make money out their shares so we will see about that when the time comes.

Features?

Well do I really need to repeat what as been said by you guys a million time?

Short non exhaustive list:

Global shutter - Sensor size? dunno yet! Plenty of DR for sure. internal ND filters Interchangeable lens mounts No moire, No Aliasing 24, 25, 30, 60, 120, 240 Frames per second. The higher rates might just be burst but that will do. Standard removable batteries Balanced sound, 48v, proper mechanical knobs for sound adjustment and dedicated panel. SDI - HDMI outputs. SSD storage

Design - Super ergonomic, remember this is a tools for people to work.

Do i need to go on????

Anyway guys.. Please be constructive.

Thank you

My question is, does anyone know of any insurance company that will provide this kind of cover, I can understand why they wouldn't but there is no way I am going to be able to spend 10 days literally strapped to all my camera gear.

Thanks for any help, Max.

Anyone have a dead GH1 to donate? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4104/anyone-have-a-dead-gh1-to-donate Tue, 31 Jul 2012 20:06:14 +0000 LPowell 4104@/talks/discussions My GH1 is still working fine except for one little detail: the SD card door no longer snaps shut. I can see that the cause is a tiny ridge on the inside of the door that simply wore out over time.

Does anyone happen to have a dead GH1 they could donate to fix my old GH1's SD card door? This particular GH1 has quite a history, as it's the camera I used to develop all five of my original GH1 patches. In addition, it was retrofitted with Panasonic's unhackable version of the GH1 firmware after I was forced to send it back to the factory for warranty service. As a result, it became one of the first unhackable GH1's to be hacked by Vitaliy's breakthough version of PTool that liberated all GH1's. After such a momentous career, it'd be an indignity to have to tape the stupid door down with duct tape. So if you can, please help!

Gigapixel Holographic Microscope Made From A4 Paper Scanner http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7111/gigapixel-holographic-microscope-made-from-a4-paper-scanner Thu, 30 May 2013 20:39:00 +0000 Walker 7111@/talks/discussions From MIT: The A4 digital scanner gathering dust under your desk could find new life as a gigapixel holographic microscope, say Japanese engineers who have constructed one at minimal cost

image

The setup could hardly be more basic. The simplest way to make a hologram is the so-called “in-line” method. This involves placing the laser, sample and recording medium in line with each other. The laser shines onto, and past, the sample. Any light that is diffracted by sample also interferes with undiffracted light, creating an interference pattern.

The difficult task is recording this interference pattern with the required resolution. But Shimobaba and buddies have done it with a standard A4 consumer scanner capable of recording at 4800 dpi.

That’s the kind of scanner that is probably gathering dust on your bookshelf or behind your desk. It works using a single line of light-sensitive CCDs that it scans down the length of the page. Theoretically, it is capable of achieving a resolution of 56,144 x 39,698 pixels. That’s over 2 gigapixels.

These guys have use their equipment to make holograms that are slightly smaller than this with 0.43 gigapixels. They’ve recorded a US Air Force 1951 test target as well as holograms of an ant and a water flea.

That’s entertaining work that makes it possible for almost anybody to make a high-resolution digital hologram at little cost.

Trip to Sweden/Stockholm http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7095/trip-to-swedenstockholm Wed, 29 May 2013 07:42:46 +0000 FilmCat 7095@/talks/discussions Hi guys,

I'm planning a trip to Sweden for 10 days to make a sort of observational film of the culture and lifestyle as well as of my journey. I went to Sweden every year with my family when I was younger and I simply fell in love with the place and the people. I haven't managed to go back for a few years since though and now that I'm 18 I'm planning my first trip with a friend for the middle of July. Unfortunately I speak very very little Swedish but from experience there is a lot of English spoken there, I intend to learn as much of the language as I can before I go though.

I have a few of questions about lenses, laws and living.

First off, I'm taking my GH2, fluid head (heavy) tripod, laptop and small led video light. Also a Gopro Hero 3. A tent, sleeping bag and GPS as well as other essentials.

Living:

.: Most importantly I'd like to stay alive, so if there are any places I should avoid especially at night I'd be grateful to know.

.: Also if anyone lives in or around Stockholm and wouldn't mind allowing me and a friend to stay the night, we will both be 18 or under and of course very respectful of your home. And very thankful not to spend every night in a tent!

Lenses:

.: 14-42mm Kit Lens

.: 50mm Zenitar f1.7 or 50mm Nikon f1.8

.: Hopefully picking up a 28mm pentax-M before I go.

.: Is it worth renting a further lens such as a Voigtländer 25mm f0.95?

Laws:

.: I've read that there are very relaxed photography laws in Sweden and that I can take pictures of anyone or anything without their permission as long as I am in a public space (excluding art?) and do anything non-commercial with it.

.: I plan on camping a few nights too and that in Sweden I can camp anywhere I like within reason and without permission?

I'm really looking forward to this trip and if there is anything in particular I should be aware of that would make it more enjoyable please let me know :)

I've also noticed Vitaliy is planning some potential PV Meet-ups in cities around the world so if it happens to lie within the dates I decide then I'll be there of course.

Thanks, Max.
