X-Rite i1Photo Pro 3 Plus Spectrometer http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/22427/x-rite-i1photo-pro-3-plus-spectrometer Fri, 16 Aug 2019 02:52:18 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 22427@/talks/discussions

The new i1Photo Pro 3 Plus from X-Rite is an ultra-precise spectral colour measurement solution that is optimised for Colour Perfectionists who print digitally on a wide range of specialised materials and surfaces.

image

X-Rite Incorporated, the global leader in colour science and technology, is now shipping the new i1Photo Pro 3 Plus, a spectral colour measurement solution specifically designed for professional photographers who print on challenging textured and glossy photo media looking for the most accurate colour in their RGB print workflows. i1Photo Pro 3 Plus combines the new i1Pro 3 Plus spectrophotometer and i1Profiler software to deliver the ultimate professional-level colour management for displays, projectors, scanners, RGB printers and cameras.

Current profiling solutions are limited in their ability to measure textured, rough, or uneven surfaces and cannot accommodate various material thicknesses. Many devices do not have the resolution required to ensure the highest colour quality when printing detailed patterns, metallic effects, or photography images. This leads to costly colour errors and rework, which impacts a photographer’s bottom line.

“The i1Photo Pro3 Plus builds on the success of the i1 Family and removes the variability to create accurate ICC profiles on a broader range of photographic materials,” said Liz Quinlisk, Photo and Video Business Unit Manager, X-Rite. “Photographers will see the immediate value by incorporating the i1Photo Pro 3 Plus into their RGB print workflow, resulting in more accurate, repeatable colour and improved shadow detail, as well as a reduction of waste and an increased return on investment.”

New in the i1Pro3 Plus spectrophotometer:

  • Larger 8mm aperture supports new materials and substrates used in digital printing.
  • Polarisation Filter (measurement condition M3) that reduces specular highlights and shadows to provide “better blacks” and richer colours on rough surfaces and glossy media, like canvas prints and fine art photo papers.
  • High Brightness Measurement up to 5K NITs for ultra-bright displays.
  • Simultaneously measure M0, M1 and M2 in a single pass to account for optical brighteners so photographers can quickly predict how colours printed on optically brightened substrates will look under different lighting conditions.
  • New LED illuminant that improves device reliability. The i1Pro3 Plus allows for four measurement conditions (ISO 13655 M0; M1: D50; M2: UV Excluded, M3Polarised).
  • Transmission scanning support for backlit materials.
  • Longer scanning ruler to support wider charts.

“We are used to seeing bumpy shadow measurements from unpolarised devices on glossy textured media like canvas. With the new polarisation feature in the i1Pro 3 Plus, our M3 measurements are dramatically smoother in the shadows - perfect in fact,” commented Scott Martin, Founder, Onsight, a leading workflow consultant for print, prepress, design and photography.

New X-Rite iO Table

In addition, X-Rite announces a new i1iO Automated Scanning Table that supports the i1Pro 3 Plus hardware. This hands-free test chart reader offers automated colour profiling on a variety of substrates with reduced risk of colour measurement errors. It is ideal for colour perfectionists who want to speed up and automate the measurement process and eliminate manual strip reading. The new i1iO table can be used with a variety of materials including canvas, textiles, ceramics, corrugated, etc. and supports materials up to 33mm thick, with the optional z-axis spacer. It also supports transparencies and backlit materials.

Additional i1Pro 3 Plus Solutions

In addition to i1Photo Pro 3 Plus, X-Rite is now shipping these new i1Pro 3 Plus solutions:

  • i1Basic Pro 3 Plus – includes monitor calibration and quality control for monitors and printers
  • i1Publish Pro 3 Plus – includes CMYK+ printer module and all features of i1Photo Pro 3 Plus

Asus ProArt 32UCX VS Apple Pro Display XDR http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23242/asus-proart-32ucx-vs-apple-pro-display-xdr Fri, 13 Dec 2019 07:48:11 +0000 jonpais 23242@/talks/discussions While awaiting delivery of my Asus PA32UCX-K this afternoon, I thought I’d compare a few of the features and specs of the two displays, bearing in mind that the XDR has not yet been tested.

The XDR boasts 6K, while the Asus is a 4K monitor; however, only the 2019 Mac Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro can run the XDR at full 6K resolution. Both the Asus and the Apple are true 10-bit displays.

Apple claims 500 nits for their display in SDR mode and 1,000 nits sustained and 1,600 nits peak brightness in HDR mode. The Asus can deliver anywhere from 620-656 nits in SDR and from 1,400-1,534 nits maximum brightness in HDR, depending on which reviewer you read.

The Pro Display XDR has 576 local dimming zones, whereas the Asus has 1,152.

On his YouTube channel, Marques Brownlee says his Pro Display XDR is virtually silent, while the Asus is supposed to get quite noisy.

According to Asus, the maximum viewing angle of the PA32UCX-K is 178 degrees in the horizontal and vertical (Apple claims 180 degree viewing angle for the XDR), and according to tests, hue, saturation, brightness, contrast and color temperature remain virtually unchanged even at extreme viewing angles. I expect Apple’s display will be no slouch in this department either.

As far as connectivity goes, Apple’s monitor has one TB3 port and three USB-C ports. The Asus comes with dual TB3 ports, one DisplayPort and three HDMI 2.0 ports.

The Apple Pro Display XDR runs $6,500 in the USA when purchased with stand and AppleCare+. Throw in the nano-texture glass option and that figure skyrockets to $7,500.00. In Vietnam, the ProArt 32UCX-K costs half as much ($3,300.00) and comes with stand, a three-year warranty and an X-Rite i1 Display Pro colorimeter (value $250.00 in USA, $325 in VN). With the Asus, you will however have to factor in another grand for Blackmagic’s UltraStudio 4K Mini. Ouch!

Sony PVM-X2400 and PVM-X1800 master monitors http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23481/sony-pvm-x2400-and-pvm-x1800-master-monitors Sat, 01 Feb 2020 22:24:22 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 23481@/talks/discussions image

Sony will launch a new set of high-grade picture monitors from its TRIMASTER range at this year's BSC Expo in London. Both the 24'' and 18.4'' models will be showcased on stand 515, alongside other flagship solutions from Sony.

The PVM-X2400 (24'') and the PVM-X1800 (18.4'') monitors provide high picture quality and accurate colour reproduction thanks to Sony's specified and dedicated panels, which offer ultra-high definition with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels and an impressive brightness of all-white luminance of 1000 cd/m2. For optimum film production, their wide colour gamut matches the industry-leading BVM-HX310 TRIMASTER HX master monitor. This means both monitors offer accurate colour reproduction and precise greyscale, giving filmmakers a reliable tool to help make critical imaging decisions and faithful colour matching throughout the workflow. With its compact size and high portability, the monitors are aimed to expand footprints in 4K HDR production including versatile applications such as on-set monitoring, non-linear video editing, studio wall monitoring, rack-mount monitoring of OB trucks or machine rooms.

The monitors also feature new Black Detail High/Mid/Low, which helps maintain accurate colour reproduction by reducing the brightness of the backlight in three steps to reproduce the correct colours and gradations in low-luminance areas. Another new function, Dynamic Contrast Drive, dynamically changes backlight luminance to adapt to each scene or frame when transferring images from PVM-X2400/X1800 to existing Sony OLED monitors. This functionality allows filmmakers to check the highlight and low light balance of the contents with both bright and dark scenes.

"We are excited to return to BSC this year and launch our two new picture monitors at the show. At Sony, we always work closely with our partners, customers and the wider industry to offer solutions that help filmmakers overcome the real-life production challenges they face on set or in the editing room. Through the launch of these new monitors, Sony is now able to offer its customers an even wider range of compact 4K HDR monitors that provide reliable and faithful colour matching from start to finish," explained Daniel Dubreuil, Senior Product Manager at Sony Professional Solutions Europe.

Key features of the new reference monitors include:

  • TRIMASTER technology offering precise greyscale and accurate colour reproduction, achieving 100% colour gamut coverage of the industry-leading BVM-HX310 master monitor
  • 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels and HDR capabilities
  • New Black Detail High/Mid/Low toreproduce the correct colours and gradations in low-luminance areas
  • Dynamic contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 by Dynamic Contrast Drive, a new backlight driving system that dynamically changes the backlight luminance to adapt for each frame of a scene
  • 4K/HD scopes with HDR scales that are Waveform/Vector
  • Quad View display and User 3D LUT functionality
  • 12G/6G/3G/HD-SDI with auto configuration

These new monitors will be available in July 2020.

Canon Color Calibration Service For Displays http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/22751/canon-color-calibration-service-for-displays Mon, 14 Oct 2019 05:13:56 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 22751@/talks/discussions

As High Dynamic Range (HDR) content production continues to become more popular, the need for finely calibrated displays has become more critical. With numerous evolving HDR formats, it is only through calibration that the artistic vision can be fully enjoyed. In response to this growing demand, Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions is excited to announce it will now be offering a color calibration service for display products. The fee-based service can be performed on Canon’s lineup of reference displays as well as displays from other manufacturers. As a well-established industry leader in Service and Support, Canon’s commitment to professionals is further cemented with the introduction of this new service offering.

Clients of this service will have Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) certified Canon professionals visit them on-site, so that the calibration is tailored specifically to their viewing environment. During a calibration session, several key image quality elements will be measured such as, white point, primary and secondary color chromaticity, luminance and gamma. Each attribute will be adjusted to best match the industry standard that fits the client’s needs. Clients will also be provided with detailed pre- and post-calibration reports – removing ambiguities as to how each display is performing.

“At Electric Entertainment we had an exceptional experience with Canon’s on-site service and support reference display color calibration service that included HDR and SDR alignments,” noted Bill Ritter, Head of Engineering for Electric Entertainment. “In our case, we needed color calibration assurance in P3D65, DCI XYZ and head/full range REC 709 color spaces. The Canon representatives’ expertise and one-on-one experience was second to none. Any of our questions were answered quickly and professionally.”

Canon’s color calibration service is available now. For more information about the service or to set-up a free consultation with a Canon calibration professional, please visit usa.canon.com/calibration.

PR

Go everywhere and see everything exactly how you want it with the Atomos Shinobi - a high brightness 1000nit 5-inch HDMI monitor that’s perfect for vloggers, creatives and photographers. When you’re shooting video on mirrorless cameras and DSLRs, the Shinobi gives you the perfect view and is packed with the latest features, but is small and light enough to take anywhere – weighing in at a mere 200g (7 oz). Shinobi shares the same HDR 1920x1080 display and color processing found in the multi-award-winning Atomos Ninja V monitor/recorder. With a professional 1000nit brightness screen it can be seen clearly even in daylight. It has an impressive pixel density of 427 PPI (pixels per inch) and is factory calibrated for color accuracy. Shipping today, the Shinobi costs just $399US / €399 plus local taxes.

The polycarbonate body is lightweight and durable. It has ¼” - 20 mount points on the top and bottom to allow flexible mounting. A headphone jack on the side allows users to monitor audio from most cameras even if it doesn’t have a built-in one. Clear on-screen audio level meters give users confidence that their audio is set correctly.

Shinobi can run for up to six hours on a single Sony NP-F750 type battery, already commonly found in most video shooters’ kit bags. A clear on-screen battery gauge shows the status of the battery and when it is running low. The central position of the battery mount on the rear of the Shinobi ensures good balance when mounted to mirrorless cameras.

Atomos is well known for its AtomOS 10 system with simple to use touch-screen interface. The Shinobi has the latest monitoring features of AtomOS 10, allowing users to quickly and easily check and adjust image settings to best capture their creative intent. In moments they can magnify the image or engage peaking to check focus, pull up false color, a histogram, zebras or waveform to gauge exposure, or add guides or markers to aid composition. The interface has clear, yet unobtrusive icons which allow the image to be the focus of attention – and with a simple swipe all the menus go away for a totally clear view. These features allow the user to really concentrate on their shot and its framing. Vloggers will especially value the flip-screen function which mirrors the image when you are filming yourself talking to your audience.

Atomos CEO Jeromy Young said, “Our single biggest customer request has been a stand-alone Photo and Video monitor – Shinobi answers that call. We’ve taken our pro color and HDR processing and designed a super lightweight monitor that any YouTuber or IGTV creator can afford.”

For broad compatibility the Shinobi’s HDMI port can accept signals up to 4K (4096x2160) at 30fps, or HD video up to 60fps. The screen can also perfectly display 10+ stops of dynamic range when being used with Log or HLG HDR outputs. Atomos’ advanced color science gives a complete range of in-built gamma presets to match popular cameras when shooting Log or HLG.

Creative users who want to see their Log or flat images with a creative look applied can easily load LUTs directly into the Shinobi’s built-in memory. Simply place a compatible LUT onto a SD card and pop it into the Shinobi, then load it into one of Shinobi’s eight internal preset LUT memories. Once done any of the eight LUTs can be recalled immediately for speedy comparison. In addition, countless more LUTs can be kept on the SD card and loaded in when needed. The same SD card slot can also be used to install any future firmware updates.

For more advanced uses the Shinobi features a new multi-tool Analysis view that simultaneously shows the image, plus waveform, histogram, vectorscope and audio-level meters. In addition, there are multiple options inside each of these tools. This give the operator a complete picture of what is going on in the image at any time.

Although the Shinobi is designed primarily for smaller cameras, its advanced features mean that users of larger cine cameras, traditional camcorders or other Atomos monitor/recorders may also find it an excellent additional monitor for their needs. It also enables operators on multi-camera shoots to have the same high quality HDR monitoring on additional cameras.

If shooting Log or HLG HDR the Shinobi features the Atomos HDR engine that allows the operator to see more dynamic range on screen at once. Users simply engage a dedicated preset for their camera and around 10 stops of dynamic range are shown, giving an accurate representation of the image in HDR while shooting. It can also be used to give a much better indication of what the image can look like after post production. You can also connect the Shinobi to your Mac or PC for use as an extra monitor while editing – even in the field.

A major benefit of Shinobi is that it can be properly color-calibrated using free Atomos software and the X-rite i1Display Pro probe. All monitors’ colors drift over time and routine calibration ensures that the colors remain as accurate as when they originally left the factory.

Photographers can also benefit from using Shinobi for their work. Instead of composing and assessing an image on the small built-in camera LCD screen the Shinobi affords photographers a larger, clear view of their all-important shot. Having a Shinobi and your camera in live-view gives a color accurate preview, plus instant review of composition, exposure and focus during a shoot. Landscape and studio photographers in particular can benefit from this way of working.

The Atomos Shinobi is available now from authorized Atomos dealers.

BenQ America Corp., a world-leading display technology and solutions provider, announced today the release of its SW270C monitor, part of the PhotoVue Photographer Photo Editing Monitor Series. Created for photographers, videographers, artists and designers, the 27-inch monitor incorporates state-of-the-art AQColor™ Technology to provide users with consistent color accuracy, while enhancing their workflow and productivity.

New to the SW270C is the Color Uniformity Technology, which includes screen-wide precise color from corner to corner, while utilizing BenQ’s AQColor technology, led by a team of color experts, to deliver an accurate and brilliant color experience. Additionally, the SW270C comes factory calibrated with a color performance report to ensure out-of-the-box color accuracy, so users can trust their monitor from the moment they start using it.

The SW270C covers 99% of Adobe RGB, 100% of sRGB/Rec. 709, and 97% of DCI-P3/Display P3.
