Samyang unveils their first AF lens for Nikon cameras: AF 14mm F2.8 F [Master the art of Ultra Wide-Angle]

Samyang Optics announces a new, ultra wide-angle lens, the AF 14mm F2.8 F. It is the company's first-ever autofocus lens for Nikon DSLR full-frame cameras. The AF 14mm F2.8 lens has been developed using Samyang Optics' globally renowned optical technology.

116.6° Ultra Wide-Angle with beautiful bokeh...

Inside the lens, there are 15 elements in 10 groups, including 2 aspherical elements, 4 high refractive (HR) elements and 1 extra-low dispersion (ED) glass element to minimise distortion and chromatic aberrations, for crystal clear resolution. This lens offers a powerful 116.6 degrees wide angle-of-view. It also features 7 rounded aperture blades, which help to create beautiful bokeh (out-of focus backgrounds) in portraits, still-lifes and night-time cityscapes.

Faster, accurate and quieter Auto Focus performance...

The AF 14mm F2.8 F autofocus function is upgraded with Samyang's advanced technology. The lens offers faster, more accurate and quieter autofocus performance than previous AF 14mm F2.8 lenses.

Capture vivid images anytime, anywhere...

This compact ultra wide-angle lens weighs only 484g (without lens cap and hood). The lens also features weather-sealing and a built-in AF/MF switch for increased usability. With a minimum focus distance of just 20cm, it is possible to capture more vivid close-up images of portraits, pets, food etc., anytime, anywhere.

50mm T2.1 SLR Magic APO HyperPrime CINE Lens http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11272/50mm-t2.1-slr-magic-apo-hyperprime-cine-lens Sat, 13 Sep 2014 18:16:05 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 11272@/talks/discussions image

SLR Magic will present a new CINE lens to the public from the APO-HyperPrime lens family in the upcoming Photokina 2014 fair in Cologne at the SLR Magic booth (Hall 5.1, L-011).

The SLR Magic APO-HyperPrime CINE 50mm T2.1 is the first lens of the family. It achieves outstanding images under challenging lighting conditions.

When taking pictures with many image-dominant, open light sources, it is common for correction defects to show up. However, because the SLR Magic APO-HyperPrime CINE 50mm T2.1 is an apochromatic (APO) lens, longitudinal chromatic aberrations are corrected by its unique optical design and selection of optical elements. The colour defects are therefore significantly lower than the defined limits. Bright / dark transitions in the image, and especially highlights, are rendered with no colourful artifacts. Thanks to the low level of longitudinal chromatic aberration, there are no visible aberrations. So an illuminated portrait scene by night with many light sources in front of and behind the actual focal plane appears close to reality, without displaying complementary, colour contrast edges.

The superior performance delivered by the SLR Magic APO-HyperPrime CINE 50mm T2.1 is consistent for all shooting distances. Its high performance with an open aperture also makes this lens a great choice for portraits or close-ups.

Features a completely new optical and mechanical design, which has been developed to take into account the special and increasing demands of high-resolution cameras including those with 4K and 6K sensors.

The APO-HyperPrime CINE lens series comes standard in PL mount and can be easily adapted to numerous camera systems. Optional mount adapters will include PL-mFT adapter, PL-E adapter, and EF mount conversion adapter. The lenses all feature a standard focus rotation angle of 300 degrees and uniform measurements. This combination makes the lenses ideally suited for professional cinematography.

As a continued dedication to anamorphic lenses, some of the lenses in the APO-HyperPrime CINE lens family would be compatible with the SLR Magic 1.33x 50 Anamorphot adapter.

SLR Magic plans to exhibit the first lens of its PL cinema series at the Photokina, Cologne 16th to 21st September 2014. The SLR Magic stand is located in Hall 5.1, Booth L-011.

SLR Magic will start shipping the APO-HyperPrime CINE 50mm T2.1 in early 2015.

Should I be concerned?!

The new Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR is an exhilarating new lens option, giving enthusiast FX and DX-format photographers the ability to go further with amazing zoom power and tack-sharp clarity. This compact super-telephoto zoom is ideal for bringing distant subjects closer, including birds, sports, wildlife and motorsports. This lens opens the doors for a fresh new perspective; with a maximum reach of 500mm on FX-format Nikon cameras and a staggering 750mm equivalent reach on DX-format cameras. With a maximum aperture of f/5.6, photographers have the ability to fill much of the frame with their subject and create a pleasing background blur, even in challenging light. This lens also features Nikon’s Electromagnetic Aperture for consistent exposures, as well as VR with 4.5 stops of image stabilization. Additionally, the VR features Sport Mode, which is well-suited for capturing vibrant, sharp images of distant subjects at high frame rates or when panning with fast-moving action. The lens also lets users focus as close as 7.2 ft. throughout the entire focal range, for when a decisive play comes closer than expected, or capturing intricate details of nature.

Whether spending all day at an air race or in the field, the new NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6 is surprisingly lightweight at only 5 lbs 1.2 oz. (2300 grams) including the tripod collar, making this lens easy to use handheld for extended periods. Photographers looking for even more reach can increase the zoom power using an optional compatible Nikon 1.4x, 1.7x or 2x E series Teleconverters** to capture even the most distant subjects.

The new AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR’s optical formula features three ED elements to enhance sharpness and minimize chromatic aberration. A 9-blade aperture provides a desirable, smooth bokeh, while Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor technology helps to quickly and quietly achieve critical focus. The filter diameter of the new 200-500mm lens is 95mm, and Nikon will also offer optional 95mm NC (Neutral Color) and the 95mm Circular Polarizer CPL2 filters

Sigma Corporation of America, a leading researcher, developer, manufacturer and service provider of some of the world's most impressive lines of lenses, cameras and flashes, today announced the new Sigma 24mm F1.4 DG HSM Art lens, the ninth Global Vision lens to join the company’s iconic Art line-up. The announcement comes at the start of the CP+ Camera and Photo Imaging Show 2015, which begins on Feb. 12 in Yokohama, Japan.

The much anticipated 24mm F1.4 Art wide angle lens is designed for full-frame DSLRs, and when used on digital cameras with an APS-C size image sensor, it effectively becomes a 38mm. The lens is ideal for capturing a variety of photography subjects, including cityscapes, mountain ranges, astrophotography and weddings and is great for videography work as well. The 24mm also excels at indoor photography in low illumination thanks to the combination of exceptional focal plane sharpness, and gorgeous bokeh rendered by nine rounded aperture blades. The lens achieves a maximum magnification of 1:5.3 with a minimum focusing distance of 9.8 inches. The 24mm incorporates both "F" Low Dispersion (FLD) glass and Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass in a design of 15 elements in 11 groups to minimize chromatic aberration of magnification especially in the edge of the image field. Moreover, the optimized power layout includes aspherical elements that are positioned in the rear of the lens for improved wide open performance. This helps to ensure minimal distortion through the correction of axial chromatic aberration and sagittal coma flare. The new lens element design also delivers excellent peripheral brightness.

“The Sigma Art lenses are recognized by photographers for world-class performance, and the new 24mm F1.4 DG HSM will be a significant contribution to our selection of fast aperture prime lenses which is quickly becoming a strong force in the industry” said Mark Amir-Hamzeh, president of Sigma Corporation of America. “Sigma is redefining the expectations of fast-aperture full-frame prime lens performance, especially wide-open, and the results the 24mm F1.4 will deliver will be up to the exacting standards set by the 35mm F1.4 DG HSM and 50mm F1.4 DG HSM .”

Other updates to this lens include a new full-time manual focusing mechanism that switches to manual focusing, simply by rotating the focus ring, even when AF is being used, first introduced on the 50mm Art. This allows the photographer to make focus adjustments quickly and easily. As with all new lenses under the Global Vision categories, every 24mm will be tested using Sigma’s own MTF measuring system, “A1,” in the company’s factory in Japan.

Other lenses in the Art line include 35mm F1.4 DG HSM, 30mm F1.4 DC HSM, 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM, 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM, 50mm F1.4 DG HSM, 19mm F2.8 DN, 30mm F2.8 DN and 60mm F2.8 DN.

The 24mm F1.4 is compatible with Sigma’s USB dock, allowing photographers to update the lens’ firmware and change focus parameters as well as manual focus over-ride using Sigma's Optimization Pro software. It is also compatible with Sigma’s Mount Conversion Service. The lens will be available in Canon, Nikon and Sigma mounts, and timing, pricing and availability will be announced at a later date.

I sold my 20mm and gots me one of these babies a few days back (first batch in UK) for a really good price (under £400 early display copy no box or pouch but got the hood!).
Also owning a Voigtlander 25mm 0.95 & Voigt 35mm f1.4 Id thought I would share my personal thoughts in comparison.
Well to start...The lens is good....damn good.
Pros
Sharp even at F1.4 Detail and rendition of colour is beautiful.
AF is very fast and accurate on my GH2 not so fast on my GF1...but still faster than the 20mm f1.7
Very controlled image...by this I mean it has very little CA and no flares

But heres the Cons
Price...I was lucky to get this cheap but general UK retail is near £560!...that im sorry is ludicrous...It has astounding optics and yeah okay f1.4 with fast accurate AF is probably why but no!
Why? Build...Plastic! (albeit harder plastic than other Panny lenses)
The voigts FEELS expensive (heck even my Super Tak 50mm f1.4 feels more expensive) you know its crafted...but the Leica? Just off the mass produced factory line...for that price we deserve SOLID BUILD!

Lacks the ability for creativity because of its very controlled image...by this I mean its lacking character...much like the 20mm f1.7.
You can have more creative image with the Voigt.
Focus ring for MF...I just dont like it...theres no give...its just silly smooth so hard to be pinpoint accurate. The Voigt has very nice dampened focus ring and can be accurate even at f0.95

I would say if it was cheaper then get one as it is really superb...but as the price is very close to the voigt 25mm f0.95 I would say get that if you can live without the AF as it gives more stops of light and feels like you bought something that justifies the cost.
Is it better than the 20mm?....absolutely without question BUT if you have the 20mm and cant afford the Leica...dont lose sleep over it.

Anyway I leave this with a quick snapshot of my little girl taken with the Leica & GF1 (both at f1.4 in jpg right out of camera no post)...I was amazed by the detail even on a ye olde GF1 so can give you a idea of the quality.

Camera set to aperture priority. All lenses were wide open, except for the Hexanon 40 at 1.8 and 2.8 (beautiful pancake lens). Check for bokeh, colour, flaring and sharpness (yes, the 12mm 1.6 is in focus). I was surprised the Canon nFD 35 2.0 flared so much compared to the 50s. Anyone has had the same behaviour?

Need advices about lenses http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19744/need-advices-about-lenses Sat, 19 May 2018 07:29:56 +0000 flash 19744@/talks/discussions Hi, I have a GH5 and plan to buy lens for a short film. I have already a Voigtländer 25mm, wich I love ( a lot since I can work the focus easily with the remap range function of Nucleus-M). I was ready to buy Xeen lens but the Voigtlander are lighter and better in lowlight (even if they are not sharpe at 0.95, I can do it postproduction). (this lens will be mounted on BM Pocket 4K when it'll be available)

I have 3 options:

  • Voigtlander
  • Veydra
  • Xeen

Voigtlander and Veydra are MFT, so I can't mount it on Full frame. Xeen are FF, but they are much heavier and not luminous (speedbooster will help).

Does MFT have a future ? Is it better to go with Xeen ? It's very hard to choose. What is your opinion ? (sorry for my english)
