Just bought an Edelkrone FF for my GH3 rig and it is really nice but a thought occurred to me. The "throw" on the follow focus is very small when using the Edelkrone "tie-wrap" type gears, so I wondered if it is possible to affect the gearing ratio of the fly-by-wire focus of the Panasonic lens (especially 12-35 and 35-100). Would make subtle adjustments of focus a lot easier. I realise I could ask the same question of Edelkrone to see can they produce different gearing (unlikely it has to be said) or maybe could try a much bigger diameter lens gear, but a way to lower the sensitivity of the lens would be really handy (let you leave on lens gear...) - for me anyway.

I see lot of post about Mjpeg vs avchd, the majority of people say avchd better than Mjpeg. But today I'm not sure...

I was making a shot test between 24h/HBR/Mjpeg with "Driftwood Cluster X series 3:│moon T7" The scene is very contrasted with highlights and black.

I prefer Mjpeg...!!! Because the noise is the same and I see more details and more sharpen.

I want know if somebody testing Mjpeg and say the same thing.

25p and 2K possible? with the option Mpjeg fps of ptools?

The time limite?

Mjpeg in 2K 25p no limited time, It 's dream for me.

I need your suggestion about what patch to use for low altitude aerial footage, filmed with panny 7-14, subjects are most of the times under very contrasted sunny light, most of the times buildings or detailed nature..

I need low contrast and high latitude to color grade in post and most of all I need the lowest amount of sharpness possible, or not at all would be perfect.

What patch and settings do you suggest me ? (24p or 25p is good)

I just want to clarify something first, which I think I understand but haven't been able to empirically confirm yet...

So, the functionality of the GH2 NEVER changes with any of the hacks right? Only what goes on behind the curtain, I.E. Framerates are specific to shooting modes and don't change unless specified in the patch notes, Intra is applied to all modes (unless otherwise specified), same with GOP, Quant etc etc etc.

The only exception being higher ISO settings.

If this is true, then (since I just bought the GH2) getting accustomed to the functionality of the camera is really unrelated to the hacks/patches and http://www.personal-view.com/faqs/gh2-usage/gh2-usage is all I need to 'learn' the camera.

The hacks/patches are a sort of 'silent' upgrade to what happens behind the curtain or lens correct?

i loaded a certain ini setting onto ptools yesterday and saved it as an .bin file. But now im not certain which one it is, beaceause ptools has saved 2 settings.

Is there a way to read the .bin file and see the settings?

Good patch for this use?

Any ideas of how to get my file off of the sd card? I'm scared to remove the sd card from the reader attached to my computer. (WRITTEN ON TUES. JULY 9, 2013 at 4:37pm Eastern Standard Time, U.S.)

I'm pretty new at this and I do apologize for the noob question but right now I hacked my GF2 with the "Driftwood Quantum X (v3b Rocket) RC VBR 'Settings'" and I'm not sure if I did it correctly. Are there any signs to check to see if my GF2 is hacked? Since my GF2 settings seems normal.

Second question is, I'm gonna be using my GF2 for mostly video shoots, 10-30minute videos. Which hack/setting would benefit me the most? Or should I stick with my v3b Rocket one?

I'm a film student in my last year and I am doing my senior projects. I have a GH2 that I hacked with the Moon Trail 5 settings after asking some classmates and doing some research. And I am very happy with how my projects are coming out with Moon, but I have this nagging feeling that I didn't do the right thing. Now I've done some more research and a lot of people have been using Flow Motion v2. There doesn't seem to be anything out there directly comparing the two. And because of my ignorance of the terminology used when talking about the hacks, I can't figure it out for myself.

So now I am asking for some opinions about the two hacks compared to one-another. What are they good at? What are they bad at? Which one is the best bet if you want to make films and not do a ton of color grading?

I would like to ask if it's possible to somehow produce an ini file for the new hacks with 4:3 aspect ratio? The only hack I came across is a very old mjpeg one. I'm looking for 1920x1440, is that possible or I have to crop from 16:9?

I'm seeing some width/height params in the ini but don't want to touch them without expert advice.

edit: I read that mpjeg hack uses very low vertical resolution. I suspect the max vertical is 1080 for this camera for video...

I'm just waiting on my gh2 being delivered, I'm gonna be using it to shoot skiing pretty much exclusively, and here's what I'm after:

ALL camera functions remain unimpaired It's gonna be a PAL camera and I need to be able to shoot 720P60 Need to be able to shoot iso 12800(may not end up using it very often if at all, but having it would be very beneficial)

The next two aren't essential:

Manual audio gain control would be good too. Immediately restart recording if it stops would also be good.

I've read various things on personal view, dvx user, youtube vids etc just to try and understand the gh2 hack a bit more, still a lot of it going over my head haha, but I seem to have a very slight understanding of it & the benefits etc.

So basically I'm after a hack that will do just that, I may in future experiment with different ones finding I need higher bit rates etc, but for now, especially when skiing, I think I'll be fine with just that.

If somebody could recommend me something that can do that for me it'll be much appreciated.

My question is....and please excuse me for I am new to this all- once I put the scandisk into the camera, is there anything I have to do? Do I have to format it? Are there any settings I must do first before I can record?

• Will be shooting 24p or 25p. Want it to look 'filmic' and cinematic and less 'video'.

• The majority of the video will be sunny - although there will be a night scene too.

• Will be using the Voigtlander 25mm f0.95 mainly...with some Nikon 50mm AI-S f1.2.

• Would like to shoot 1080p ideally.

What patch would you guys recommend?

I use my GF1 + firmware hack since more than 6 months, it's great, congratulations :)

I have the following problem :

• Set "Mode A" for video

• Shut down the camera

• Power on the camera

• The "Mode A" setting for video is forgotten! The only way for having "Mode A" for video again is : go in the menu, set ANOTHER mode , e.g. "Mode P" for video, and THEN go in the menu again and set "Mode A" for video again.

I know somebody else having the same problem, with the same camera.

Who should I contact about this little bug?

Here's my own hack I think it might be usefull to others. The purpose of my setup is for my vacations in USA next month: I'll do a personal souvenir little video, instead of the usual photos.

I wanted: • all in Full-HD 1920x1080 at 24im/s so that I can show it nicely on the plasma TV. • solid 35Mbps+ average for quality encoding and have 2 hours of time on a 32GB card. • timelapse mode to be able to do the traditionnal sunset/sunrise & night views. • ultra reliable (don't want to see any error message during my vacation) / plays in-camera (so that I can do some daily cleanup without a computer).

I mixed several settings from the forum (thanks all!) and managed to do it!

So it's on my GH1 (from UK), using a Sandisk 32GB SDHC UHC-1 card (rated 45MB/s). (I have the 25mm/f1.4 and 14-45mm lenses)

The settings: (file attached) • NTSC mode & 30mn limit unblocked (camera set in NTSC mode for 24im/s) • bitrate set at 40Mbps / 44Mbps peek (giving a 37Mbps average) for AVCHD Full-HD mode (24im/s wrapped in 1920x1080i/60) • MJPEG mode configured at Full-HD (1920x1080) at 2im/s only, allowing a 1/2s exposure / 2im/s filming with very good bitrate (needs manual mode + manual focus). Converted to 24p it is equivalent to 54Mbps bitrate (with 4:2:2 color sampling). That compression level will allow 1 hour of filming (2GB limit). Awesome!

It can run the deadlies charts for 10mn without any issue, giving a solid 37Mbps average on those death charts & nature on tripod (trees from my window), and plays in camera as needed.

It's still having a long GOP (1/2s = 12 frames GOP) and using the standard 1080i/60 wrapper, for reliability, but that's not an issue for me: Premiere can handle that very nicely to produce the 1080p/24 in the end.

And from the 1 hour (realtime) 2im/s MJPEG, using http://timelapser.net/ tool, I'll be able to make a 5 minutes timelapse (once converted from 2 to 24im/s) ... or even faster using Timelapser frames blending.

All tests are working perfectly and all. I can't wait my vacations next month! (will go to Washington DC, San Francisco / Monterey, and New-York)

Is there any way to tweak the AGC - value on the Panasonic G2? Or is there even a way to disable AGC completely?

I use a Zoom H1 with a DIY-AttenuatorCable on my G2 and the sound could be alright if there wasn't this noise during silence due to AGC ... Any help would be mostly appreciated :)
