I have had a GH2 for some time now, and although I love the Cam...the single biggest complaint I have is the rolling shutter, shuddering, strobing effect when panning the camera. I have read extensively a lot of posts and threads here on or related to this problem, so I am just saying that in case someone says...there is already a post on this etc....

I have also tested various Driftwood patches (Sedna etc..) and Flowmotion and Sanity 5 to name a few, but none of them improve this much, setting the shutter speed lower does not really help a lot either, I am in PAL land so I mainly use 25P so the shutter is often set at 50 or even lower...until it gets streaky, but that does not really help that much either. I love the GH2 but I will have to limit its use (for music videos) because of this problem. I also have an older Panny TM700 and the stuttering, strobing effect when panning that camera is practically non existent at 1080/50p, in other words its fine. So is the GH2 in 720P mode at 30frames or 50 Fps, but never much good in 1080P. Which brings me to a few questions.

1. I figure its the frame rate of the Gh2 that is at the root of the problem. I assume the sensor cannot run the camera at higher rates such as 1080p at 50Fps (PAL) or 60fps..is that correct?

2. Perhaps there is a hack that addresses this, there may have been one that I have missed? (although I am doubtful). But any suggestions are welcome.

3. I know its not my monitor or anything else, I have a fast 2600k computer and my TM700 footage has no such problem, but to be sure I have lowered bitrates on some of the patches from Driftwood in particular, but it does not really help.

Color grading and everything else is important to me too, but nothing is as important as this. Its a bit of a bummer cause I love the GH2 and have invested in some good panny lenses and a nice Konica lens (I want to get more) but the strobing, electric, jello effect when panning drives me nuts!! I hope no one gets me wrong, I figure there is no solution really and I am prepared to live with it, I am just posting this in case there is someone that has had some success with this problem that I have not heard about yet. So any advice is appreciated, other than that I can only hope the GH3 is capable of 1080 at 50/60P, then I will probably buy it. Thanks for your help. Best

I selected "high bit rate" on my GH2 believing that's what I needed to do to get the constant high bit rate. Because, when shooting in normal 24 cinema mode, my bit rate was much lower than 150Mbps. I thought that if I installed this Quantum X hack, I would be able to consistently have 150 Mbps. I'm using a Sandisk Extreme 32Gb 30MB/s SDHC card, so could that be why I;m not getting the 150Mbps constant bit rate? My bit rate is 118 to 140 Mbps.

So what could I be doing wrong???? Thanks very much in advance.

Download, unzip, and launch. The app will copy all the necessary files to ~/Library/Application Support/Wine/. All you need to do is put Panasonic’s original firmware file (.bin) and settings files (.ini) in ~/Library/Application Support/Wine/prefixes/PTool Mac v3.64d/drive_c/winebottler and you’re good to go.

I tried to install Mysteron patch by Driftwood just awhile ago and shot a test the bit rate is claimed to be around 146mbs but mine is around 82mbs. I tested with Sedna and other patches and it's always around 40-60mbs some are 80mbs but never accurate as it's claimed to be ( most claimed to be around 100+mbs).

Is there a setting i should know about? I use 3.65d for mysteron and v1.1 for the hack. I have 64gb 95mbs card also. Please help me out and point me towards the light. I'm frustrated because of this. I'm starting to think it's either my card or my cam is a defect.

I have a GH2 being shipped and will be shooting a viral music video in May. i want to hack my GH2 to get some amazing high quality footage +++

Which hack could someone recommend i use to achieve high bitrate at 24p 1080 which is stable enough to shoot throughout a days music video shoot. recording time wont be much of a issue as maximum recording time would be 5min max, i will be shooting in low light/daylight/outdoors/indoors/EXclose up/wide ect.

Any points in the right direction would be much appreciated as i am a beginner in the GH2 hacks world

Stable !!! Suppose, I will do a payed gig with it. I need to have some reliable camera. Playback in camera. Would be nice if it works with 25P, 50P and 24P.

Allso it would be nice if I can use the ETC.

Can somebody tell me of some hacks that produce the best image quality but are also stable? I'm shooting big mountain skiing, so I need the hack to work in 1080p24, 720p60, in ETC mode. I also need it to be free of any jumpy motion that I hear about, and be capable of spanning. Not sure if there are any other properties worth considering when choosing a hack...

Forgive me if this has already been answered, but I couldn't find it after exhaustive searching.

But it has resisted my best efforts to upload. Could It be that I don't have a lens on the body. I do have an Olympus OM lens with adapter, but of course there is no electronic connection. Funny part is that it updated the Panasonic 1.22 file fine with this lens.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have gone through the directions over and over again.

After reading many many posts (including almost all FAQs), I realized that I have absolutelly NO idea how to follow the steps you all talk about so easily....

So here is my "question".... Is there a VERY VERY basic "starting point" instruction post/thread on what is/how to perform the hack on a GH2?? And/or maybe a glossary for all the terms used here? (Codecs, etc etc)...

I´m sure this is a stone on the path for all you guys who already know a lot about the subject, but I just can´t find where to start....

My issue: With all the various patches, it's quite overwhelming. Unfortunately, I have VERY limited time to play around and test prior to the shoot dates.

What is the best "all around", go-to patch as of current? I've seen tons of great samples displaying Driftwood's patches. There's just so many...

I'm working with some Zeiss ZF lenses and Transcend Extreme 16gb cards. Looking to possibly include some 60fps shots for slow motion and time ramping here and there as well....

I just got a GH2 and would like to remove the 30 min limit. Is there a firmware and clear set of instructions anywhere?

I was wondering if anybody has been working on hacks for the "Still Pictures" modes of the GF2 (or any of the Panasonic DMC series for that matter), or if anybody would be interested in doing so? Vitality has done some AMAZING work on the video portion of the different cameras, but the truth is I just don't shoot video that much...

I would be very interested in having firmware hacks for Still Pictures, in particular modifed settings for the "Auto (burst) bracketing".

I'd be willing to work on the hacks, but I've never hacked any firmware and I have absolutely no idea where to start. I've coded a little bit in assembly language a while back (and I regularly code in high-level languages), but I wouldn't mind getting back into it if necessary.

Looking forward to a good discussion on the subject... :)

Does the initial quantizer, video buffer, Top/Bottom settings, 720p IPB scaling/fallback, other modes top/bottom settings? Do any of these affect the 720p 30fps Motion Jpeg encoding? because it seems to me they are only meant for AVC modes.. but I could be wrong of course.

The key features are:

1) All I/P/B frames are the same quality. You know, Panasonic uses worse quality for P and B frames.

2) Use GOP tables to control max average bitrate, much better than frame limit and fallback etc., for optimal quality and stability.

3) GOP 6, I-B-B-P-B-B-I. I always feel 15/12 is way too long but 3 is too short and cannot take the advantage of B frames.

4) Reliable 4GB file spanning.

5) Video plays fine in camera.

6) No compatibility issues with video editing software.

Fully tested, no crash yet even under the extreme conditions such as fast panning from very dark to very detailed, very bright areas. Average bitrate is about 45Mbps, Class-4 works fine, but class-10 is recommended for reliable 4GB spanning.

Attached setc.ini has been fully tested, not a single failure; sete.ini has some small changes for more standard 90/72 GOP length, should be even more stable.

Image quality and motion smoothness are simply superb, incredible for a $200 camera, I've never seen such sharp video from any GF2. I'm so extremely happy that I donated to VK right after I watched this:
