We inform that the Sony Group decided to close its factory in Manaus at the end of March 2021 and interrupt, in mid-2021, sales of consumer products by Sony Brasil Ltda.—such as TV, audio and cameras—considering the recent environment and the expected business trends. The decision aims to strengthen the structure and sustainability of its businesses, in order to respond to rapid changes in the external environment.

We also inform you that Sony Brasil will continue to maintain its local operation to offer all consumer support for products under its commercial responsibility in accordance with applicable laws and its product warranty policy.

It is important to clarify that the other Sony group businesses in Brazil (Games, Professional Solutions, Music and Pictures Entertainment) will continue to maintain their strong presence in the local market.

With 48 years of history in Brazil and in this trajectory, we are grateful for the relationship of trust built over the whole time with our strong partnership.

We are available to schedule a meeting so that we can share and detail the next steps of this trajectory.

Confident of being able to count on your understanding, we thank you in advance for your always prompt attention and collaboration with Sony Brazil.

After warranty service will cease to exist totally according to rumors. Sony won't also offer any batteries or other accessories for existing cameras.

Other rumors from Japan is that we see small step (similar to Olympus pulling our of Korea) for the huge restructure that will happen during February-March period and that will see most of the digital cameras and video division to be fired. But Sony will keep producing both consumer and pro cameras, just wil lot of shared parts and lot of outsourcing, some of their own staff will be used as contractors for around 1/4-1/5 of current cost.

The CTA’s “U.S. Consumer Technology Sales and Forecasts” said this week that HDR features are continuing to resonate with consumers. The report said that 4K UHD TVs are one of the industry’s fastest growing segments, far outpacing the transition to HDTV, with unit sales forecast to hit 16.7 million units. The CTA said that would represent a 59 percent increase, and generate $14.6 billion in wholesale dollar revenue, up 45 percent from 2016.

Not bad.

USB4 finally coming with 40Gbps http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/21666/-usb4-finally-coming-with-40gbps- Mon, 04 Mar 2019 11:33:28 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 21666@/talks/discussions

March 4, 2019 – The USB Promoter Group today announced the pending release of the USB4 specification, a major update to deliver the next generation USB architecture that compliments and builds on the existing USB 3.2 and USB 2.0 architectures. The USB4 architecture is based on the Thunderbolt™ protocol specification recently contributed by Intel Corporation. It doubles the bandwidth of USB and enables multiple simultaneous data and display protocols.

The new USB4 architecture defines a method to share a single high-speed link with multiple end device types dynamically that best serves the transfer of data by type and application. As the USB Type-C™ connector has evolved into the role as the external display port of many host products, the USB4 specification provides the host the ability to optimally scale allocations for display data flow. Even as the USB4 specification introduces a new underlying protocol, compatibility with existing USB 3.2, USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt 3 hosts and devices is supported; the resulting connection scales to the best mutual capability of the devices being connected.

“The primary goal of USB is to deliver the best user experience combining data, display and power delivery over a user-friendly and robust cable and connector solution,” said Brad Saunders, USB Promoter Group Chairman. “The USB4 solution specifically tailors bus operation to further enhance this experience by optimizing the blend of data and display over a single connection and enabling the further doubling of performance.”

Key characteristics of the USB4 solution include:

  • Two-lane operation using existing USB Type-C cables and up to 40 Gbps operation over 40 Gbps certified cables
  • Multiple data and display protocols to efficiently share the total available bandwidth over the bus
  • Backward compatibility with USB 3.2, USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt 3

With over 50 companies actively participating in the final stages of review of the draft specification, the USB4 specification is on track to be published around the middle of 2019. Coincident with the release of the USB4 specification, the release of an updated USB Type-C Specification will be made to comprehend USB4 bus discovery, configuration and performance requirements.

USB Developer Days 2019, in the second half of this year, will include detailed technical training covering the USB4 specification and the latest for USB Type-C, USB Power Delivery, and other exciting topics.

Tower has notified relevant authorities and is working closely with law enforcement organizations and with a leading team of worldwide experts, coordinated with its insurance providers, in order to recover the impacted systems as soon as possible. The Company has implemented specific measures to prevent the expansion of this event. At this point there is no assessment as to the actual effect on the Company.

Rumors are that certain production systems are fully encrypted.

ProRes RAW and patent trolls from RED http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/19440/prores-raw-and-patent-trolls-from-red Fri, 13 Apr 2018 04:48:25 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 19440@/talks/discussions

ProRes RAW

ProRes RAW is a new format from Apple that offers the quality and workflow advantages of RAW with the stunning performance of ProRes. With ProRes RAW, editors can import, edit and grade pristine footage with RAW data from the camera sensor, providing ultimate flexibility when adjusting highlights and shadows — ideal for HDR workflows. And with performance optimized for macOS, editors can play full-quality 4K ProRes RAW files on MacBook Pro and iMac systems in real time without rendering. ProRes RAW files are even smaller than ProRes 4444 files, allowing editors to make better use of storage while providing an excellent format for archiving.

Final Cut Pro editors can work natively with ProRes RAW and ProRes RAW HQ files created by Atomos recorders. The format will be available as a free update for owners of Atomos Sumo 19 and Shogun Inferno devices. The format will also be available as part of a forthcoming upgrade package to users of the DJI Inspire 2 drone and Zenmuse X7 Super 35mm camera system designed for aerial cinematography.

Now let's go back to 2017

RED, known for high-end cinema cameras used by James Cameron, Peter Jackson and others, has just formed a very unusual retail partnership. It's now offering the 4.5K, 120 fps RED Raven camera exclusively at Apple.com for a mere $15,000.

Nothing unusual?

And now back to 2013, listen to Red patent trolls attacking Sony

We are heavily invested in concepts, inventions, designs, development and manufacturing of RED cameras, REDRAY and the RED Projector. Each is unique and has motivated the industry to get better, for the benefit of all. We don't mind others joining the 4K revolution... quite the contrary, we embrace it. What we don't accept is others just borrowing our technology, intentionally or unintentionally. We admire invention and happily pay for and license great technology from other companies when it is useful to our program.

We have created many jobs in the US leveraging our vision and technology and we will aggressively protect our employees. Every single job matters. It is a magic trick to build a camera in the US, especially at the highest level. This cannot be done if others are allowed to just take what we have done and use our work as their own.

Our customers have invested in our technology. They need to be protected and their investment needs to be protected. We have an obligation to our customers so they will not have their investment diluted by a proliferation of the proprietary technology they invested in.

Patents are here for a reason. They protect IP. Receiving a patent now means that you have an obligation to protect it... or they have absolutely no value whatsoever.

Solution for many cameras is using Cinema DNG, effectively it is way to circumvent patents but at a cost of making much less effective everyday work.

Back in 2017 Apple and RED made secret agreement (Atomos seems to also join on second stage), and I am sure that for now we saw only small part of it.

Both Apple and RED want to gain good money from ProRes RAW licensing. And both will use combined lawyers power to not allow any fast free compressed raw formats.

New product category at IFA 2021 and cooperation with Berlin Photo Week

From next year IFA Berlin will have a new product category and add “imaging” to the show. “Imaging has become a major trend in our world that extends far beyond private life. It plays a central role in medical technology, autonomous driving, AI-technology and many other areas“, said Heithecker.

Also, Messe Berlin is partnering with Berlin Photo Week, a unique and innovative event format for everyone who loves images. “Combining photo sessions, community experiences, artistic and cultural inspiration, the creation of irretrievable moments, partnerships that reach far beyond photography and media presence, the Berlin Photo Week is destined to become the novel imaging event format at the center of public attention“, said Wolfgang Heinen from Berlin Photo Week.

The Berlin Photo Week successfully debuted in 2019 when it attracted more than 30.000 primarily young photo-enthusiasts, smartphone consumers, DSLR-users as well as professionals. Berlin Photo Week’s objective is to create a unique way to inspire enthusiasm for making and enjoying photos and videos. It harnesses the diversity of Berlins landscape with the “Fun Place” as the event’s focal point and numerous “Satellite”-locations dispersed around the city. It also connects with Berlin’s globally renowned creative scene.

The dates of Berlin Photo Week 2021 will overlap with the IFA 2021, enabling participants to profit from visiting both events.

Set to take place from 3 to 7 September 2021, IFA Berlin 2021 already has strong industry backing. So far, more than 60 per cent of the exhibition space has already been booked.

New round of Canon staff cuts - Australia online store closed http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24380/new-round-of-canon-staff-cuts-australia-online-store-closed Thu, 03 Sep 2020 18:14:14 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 24380@/talks/discussions

This notice is to inform you that Canon Australia will be ceasing the operation of its direct to consumer marketplace - Canon Store - for the foreseeable future, effective from 30 September 2020.

The Canon Store was launched in 2011 as an ecommerce platform designed to expand online shopping options for local consumers. Fast forward to 2020, the unprecedented challenges currently facing the Australian market has seen Canon Australia re-examine the best way to help consumers access our products, services and support. As a result, we are proudly streamlining our efforts in supporting local retailers to drive competition in the local market and bring you the best value product offers, promotions, services and experiences possible.

Key dates to note:

Last orders: The Canon Store will stop taking product orders on 30 September 2020. - Promotional codes: Canon Store promotional code and discount offers are valid until 30 September 2020. - Products on backorder: Canon Store will no longer accept payment for products on backorder and will no longer add consumers to waitlists for out of stock product. Product purchases on backorder will continue to be filled for stock scheduled to arrive before 30 September 2020. Canon will directly contact consumers with orders scheduled to arrive after this date to arrange a refund or support via a local retailer.

Purchases made on the Canon Store prior to 30 September 2020 will still receive free shipping and will be covered by the Canon 14 Day Peace of Mind return policy. Canon Australia's unique 5-year local warranty for Mirrorless, DSLR, Digital Video Camera & Lens products is unaffected by the Canon Store closure and will continue to be supported for purchases made at authorised Canon sellers.

Most fun is that they wrote that they do it to "support local partners", it is total bullshit.

PHOTOPLUS is extremely proud to announce PHOTOPLUS+, an online experience and community bringing together visual storytellers with the tools and services they need to create. PHOTOPLUS+ will provide a home for photographers, filmmakers and our brands to connect not just once a year, but year-round.

PHOTOPLUS+ will offer a rich and immersive experience including product showcases, live demos, gear launches, networking opportunities and educational content. Registration for PHOTOPLUS+ is already open and available through www.PHOTOPLUSexpo.com and will launch with a full slate of content November, 1 of this year.

Since 1983, PHOTOPLUS has brought the photography and video communities together each fall to connect, share ideas, and experience the newest imaging technology. Our goal is always to support, inspire and celebrate this remarkable community, and while we are disappointed, we won’t be able to do this in person this year, the safety of our community is our top priority. To that end, we have decided to cancel our in-person event at the Javits Center in NYC, NY scheduled for October 22-24, 2020.

The difficult decision was made after consulting our community partners and supporters and closely monitoring the ongoing progression of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S., including the latest government data, measures, and guidelines on the phased reopening plans in the U.S.; current restrictions on congregating and large gatherings imposed by states and other government and public health authorities; and the various company-imposed travel restrictions on employees, affecting attendees and participating companies.

The photography market has been one of the markets hardest hit by COVID-19, but that hasn’t stopped advancements in technology or important and inspiring work from our community. Now, more than ever, we’ve seen the essential role imagery plays in our lives and the stories we tell. I have no doubt in the strength and resilience of our industry. We will continue to work and find ways to connect visual storytellers with the brands that help them create. This is the beginning of something bigger that can help our industry achieve success 365 days a year. We can’t wait to see what we create together.

PHOTOPLUS looks forward to uniting with the photography and video communities at the next full-scale and in-person show slated for October 2021 in NYC. PHOTOPLUS will provide more information, dates and plans for 2021 as they become available over the coming months. Every decision made for the in-person event will ensure we host a successful, safe and healthy event for our exhibitors and attendees.

Canon 1/1.8" CMOS sensor for low light http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24316/canon-11.8-cmos-sensor-for-low-light Fri, 21 Aug 2020 19:24:24 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 24316@/talks/discussions image

Canon announced today the launch in Japan of the LI7050, a new 1/1.8-inch CMOS sensor capable of capturing color images in full-HD even in low-illumination environments as dark as 0.08 lux1.

The recent growth of IoT technologies has in turn generated an increasing demand for network and industrial-use cameras—in particular, cameras capable of image capture in full-HD as well as nighttime color recording. Despite a compact body size of 1/1.8 inches and pixel size of 4.1 µm (micrometers), Canon’s newly developed LI7050 sensor makes possible color video recording in full-HD, even under low-light conditions.

The LI7050, while achieving a compact size, features a pixel architecture that enables high sensitivity, thereby making possible low-noise, full-HD color video recording in low-light environments as dark as 0.08 lux. Conventional nighttime monitoring employs infrared cameras and records video in monochrome. However, network cameras equipped with the LI7050 can capture video at night in such locations as public facilities, roads or transport networks, thereby helping to identify details including the color of vehicles or subjects’ clothing. What’s more, this compact, high-sensitivity sensor can be installed in cameras for such use cases as underwater drones, microscopes and wearable cameras for security personnel.

Canon’s new sensor is also equipped with an HDR drive function that realizes a wide dynamic range of 120 dB. When recording in an environment with illumination levels between, for example, 0.08 lux and 80,000 lux, the sensor’s wide dynamic range enables video capture without blown-out whites and crushed blacks. Thanks to this capability, the sensor enables cameras to record high-quality video, even when positioned at building entrances and other locations where there are significant variations in illumination levels. During normal drive operation, the sensor realizes a noise level of 75 dB and captures video without blown-out whites and crushed blacks in environments with illumination levels between, for example, 0.08 lux and 500 lux. The LI7050 supports the MIPI CSI-2 interface utilized by a wide range of consumer and industrial-use cameras, thereby greatly expanding the number of possible equipment combinations. The sensor also meets a variety of industrial needs through such features as a Region of Interest (ROI) function that enables users to select regions to read from the sensor, reducing the amount of read information and allowing for image capture at an increased framerate, and the ability to configure horizontal and vertical inversion directly from the sensor for easy viewing of footage from cameras installed on ceilings and other inverted positions. Canon has begun sample shipments of the LI7050 from today and is scheduled to officially commence sales in late October 2020.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with the health and safety of NAMM members as the first priority, NAMM is reimagining how to connect all facets of the industry while benefiting those most deeply impacted by COVID-19 with the launch of Believe in Music: The global gathering to unify and support the people who bring music to the world.

Believe in Music, to be held over the week of January 18, 2021, will feature a mix of comprehensive programming and professional education at BelieveinMusic.tv, as well as an interactive marketplace to connect buyers and sellers – all designed to elevate the innovation and inspiration found across the industry while offering support for those most deeply affected by COVID. While not The NAMM Show or a virtual tradeshow, the initiative will meet the immediate business needs of NAMM member companies through thought-leader led education for all segments of the industry, networking and AI matchmaking, and business-to-business-focused opportunities to reaffirm and grow business connections, launch new products, share brand initiatives and engage with customers in real-time.

Joe Lamond, NAMM President and CEO, says, “While it remains unsafe for us to gather in person in January, Believe in Music week will use new, intuitive technology to connect us all to harness the incredible energy that happens when we come together. With a robust marketplace to launch new products and share your brand story, Believe in Music will also feature networking and matchmaking for our buyers and our sellers, education for all segments of the industry, and live music and concerts. And just like at all NAMM events, these activities will raise awareness and financial support to serve our NAMM family across our Circle of Benefits model. Believe in Music week will be a critical step for our industry to help us prepare for the new year and new opportunities.”

Tom Sumner, president of Yamaha Corporation of America, shares, “I believe there has never been a more important moment for our industry to gather, to conduct business, to inspire each other, to inspire music makers and to support those in our music family in need. That’s why Yamaha is excited to start working on our part of the new event from NAMM, Believe in Music. As an industry, we’ve always trusted NAMM to create gatherings that are safe, provide a conducive business environment and produce those surprise moments that we talk about years after the event. While I wish I could see you in person, I look forward to seeing you at Believe in Music.”

“We at Sweetwater as well as our customers look forward to The NAMM Show, yet with COVID, there’s been a lot of changes and we’ve all had to adapt in many ways… With each change like this there comes an opportunity and we’re very excited that NAMM will bring us Believe in Music,” states Mitch Gallagher, editorial director for Sweetwater. “While we can’t replace The NAMM Show, we look forward to all that this new platform has to offer including the ability to connect with our vendors, the opportunity for more of our staff to experience new products as they’re announced, the educational and training opportunities that Believe in Music will provide and so much more. By coming together for NAMM’s Believe in Music, we can all help support our industry and the world’s music makers. We’re looking forward to a great event.”

“NAMM is and always has been about helping people make connections, advocacy for music and musicians, and bringing people together from around the globe,” says Shure’s Abby Kaplan, vice president of global retail sales. “Shure stands by NAMM in pursuit to continue that effort. Perhaps, this year, those connections will be even more important as we in the pro audio and live sound segment work at getting back to having live events and concerts. Certainly, we’ll miss seeing all of our retailers, distributors and friends in person, but we’re excited about ways we can deploy an equally compelling experience this year and into the future … This creates a new opportunity for all of us to work together, rebuild and come back better than ever.”

The weeklong celebration will welcome domestic and international NAMM members from the music instrument, pro audio, live sound and live event industries, artists, media and policymakers, along with participants from GenNext (college music students and faculty), Music Education Days (school music administrators) and Nonprofit Institute (NAMM Foundation grantees and nonprofit affiliates). Emerging and established musicians and fans are invited to connect with brands and in special music-making projects and opportunities to showcase their talents and performances throughout the week, opening the potential to gather music makers in a capacity not restricted by location.

The industry’s much-loved annual events will now take place during Believe in Music week, as well. The 36th TEC Awards will recognize the individuals, companies and technical innovations behind the sound of recordings, live performances, films, television, video games and multimedia. In 2020, Joni Mitchell was presented with the Les Paul Innovation Award, an honor that recognizes musical artists whose work has exemplified the creative application of audio technology. The Hall of Fame Award, recognizing audio pioneers, as well as the music industry’s most accomplished producers and audio technicians, was presented to the creative powerhouse behind Pensado’s Place, Dave Pensado and Herb Trawick. The TEC Awards call for entries is now open through August 31: www.TECAwards.org

It can happen that all, 100% of old Canon top management will leave before January 2021.

Presently investors and Japanese goverment advisors are not happy with Canon performance and approach to their new R mount lineup.

Huge company overhaul can happen and it will be major surprise for all western company partners and dealers.

Company can also shove off lot of service obligations, professional services venues, showrooms and many dealers.

Amazon wants to cancel Prime Day http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23908/amazon-wants-to-cancel-prime-day Sun, 24 May 2020 19:03:32 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 23908@/talks/discussions Strong rumors are that Amazon will cancel this summer their Prime Day event due to superb profits already and big load of all their centers.

Cancelling this event will also help to destroy many small businesses who either cover deals or resell items locally later.

Amazon intentionally leaked information that Prime Day will be moved to mid-late September, so with uncoming second wave time they will ahve credible reason to cancel it.

2020 will be first year where we'll see full "glory" of Amazon as monopoly, it is expected that they'll do second big affilate payments cut (they made first one already!) as well as will rise their margins on multiple popular items.

    Pentax: Mirrorless are for suckers http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/24089/pentax-mirrorless-are-for-suckers Thu, 16 Jul 2020 12:14:03 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 24089@/talks/discussions

When you take a picture with a single lens reflex (SLR) camera, the light passes through the lens, and in turn the optical viewfinder. You view the image directly with your eyes, and feel it with your heart. This is the unique experience you get when using an SLR. Not only do you enjoy the images captured, but also the entire process of taking a picture, from deciding on what to capture and where, to observing the scene, composing the image, then finally releasing the shutter. PENTAX was the first camera manufacturer in Japan to build an SLR, a progression that allowed our users to experience the joy of photography and the fun in creating images. PENTAX is committed to the future of SLR photography through the continued development of camera technology, making it more fun and exciting than ever before for all PENTAX users.

Really love this company and their nice SLR cameras, will greatly miss them soon.
