5Gbps Ethernet Base-T standard, hardware coming soon http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15807/5gbps-ethernet-base-t-standard-hardware-coming-soon Wed, 28 Sep 2016 10:11:29 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 15807@/talks/discussions

BEAVERTON, OR, SEPTEMBER 27, 2016 – The Ethernet Alliance, a global consortium dedicated to the continued success and advancement of Ethernet technologies, today hailed the ratification of IEEE 802.3bz™, Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Media Access Control Parameters, Physical Layers and Management Parameters for 2.5 Gb/s and 5 Gb/s Operation. Enabling access layer bandwidth to evolve incrementally beyond 1 Gigabit per second (Gb/s), the new standard will help address emerging needs in a variety of settings and applications, including enterprise, wireless networks, and more.“

"Now, the 1000BASE-T uplink from the wireless to wired network is no longer sufficient, and users are searching for ways to tap into higher data rates without having to overhaul the 70 billion meters of Cat5e / Cat6 wiring already sold,” said David Chalupsky, board of directors, Ethernet Alliance; and principal engineer, Intel Corporation. “IEEE 802.3bz is an elegant solution that not only addresses the demand for faster access to rapidly rising data volumes, but also capitalizes on previous infrastructure investments, thereby extending their life and maximizing value.”

The standard, which was fast-tracked for development and completed in less than two years from its initial call-for-interest, specifies Ethernet Media Access Control (MAC) parameters, physical layer specifications (PHYs), and management objects for the balanced twisted pair transmission media found in structured cabling. Facilitating up to five times the speed without requiring expensive infrastructure changes, IEEE 802.3bz enables easy, cost-effective scaling of network bandwidth. This innovative enterprise technology addresses an array of needs, including scientific and research computing, content production and editing, industrial design and automation, machine vision, and more.

USB Audio Device Class 3.0 - corporations get rid of audio connectors http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15809/usb-audio-device-class-3.0-corporations-get-rid-of-audio-connectors Wed, 28 Sep 2016 13:04:32 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 15809@/talks/discussions

Houston, TX / Beaverton, OR, USA – September 27, 2016 – USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), the support organization for the advancement and adoption of USB technology, today announced the USB Audio Device Class 3.0 specification to establish USB Audio over USB Type-C™ as the primary solution for all digital audio applications, including headsets, mobile devices, docking stations, gaming set-ups and VR solutions. Device manufacturers can eliminate the need for multiple ports and efficiently deliver data, power and video over a single connector with USB Type-C™ and USB Power Delivery. To further support a single-cable solution, USB Audio over USB Type-C™ provides a standardized approach to deliver compelling user benefits, device interoperability and easeof-use across all digital audio applications.

“USB is the simplest and most pervasive connector available today, making USB Type-C the logical choice for the future of digital audio,” said Jeff Ravencraft, USB-IF President and COO. “We encourage companies interested in adopting USB specifications to take advantage of USB-IF resources to reduce time-to-market and deliver reliable USB products.”

The USB Audio Device Class 3.0 specification makes it easier to support digital audio over USB, add capabilities to reduce power consumption and add support for new features such as hotword detection. It defines minimum interoperability requirements across analog and digital solutions to minimize user confusion when not all hosts or devices support audio consistently. USB Audio over USB Type-C™ allows OEMs to remove the 3.5mm analog audio jack, shaving up to a millimeter off product designs and reducing the number of connectors on a device. Fewer connectors will open the door for innovation in countless ways and make it easier to design waterproof or water-resistant devices. For more information and to download the specification, please visit the USB-IF website at www.usb.org.

Big guys come for your wallet.

Your input on "Magic Window" (as seen in Pepsi bus stop viral) http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15801/your-input-on-magic-window-as-seen-in-pepsi-bus-stop-viral Tue, 27 Sep 2016 03:57:01 +0000 JackBayer 15801@/talks/discussions Hello!

I am trying to get my head around setting up something like this:

The idea came from a potential client who wants to pull off something similiar but with a more interactive setup, where People can go to an pre-installed Ipad and "launch" the comet (for example) through the push on a button.

Here's what I've got so far:

LED screen stands on street. Pre-rendered rgba clips sit on an Ipad which is connected to an ATEM unit through Lightning->HDMI Adapter (setup as secondary Screen). A camera behind the LED screen feeds the "window content" live through HDMI to ATEM. In ATEM software the live feed is overlayed permanently with whatever comes from the Ipad. ATEM output goes to LED screen.

So when a user goes to the Ipad and chooses a clip to launch it gets played over the Ipad's output and mixed live in ATEM and then displayed on the screen in front of the user.

There are a few possible problems which I can already think of: Will the Ipad output "black" (which would then black out my live feed) when nothing is being played? Can ATEM overlay two vieo feeds, one with alpha? Will alpha even be transferred via HDMI? EDIT: No it's not. So instead of rgba I could use greenscreen footage and let ATEM do a live key?

I would very much appreciate any of your thoughts on this.

THANK YOU!

While sources were unspecific about the extent of the incursion, since there is the likelihood of government investigations and legal action related to the breach, they noted that it is widespread and serious.

Samsungate: Leading TV Manufacturers Cheat and Hide True Energy Costs http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15781/samsungate-leading-tv-manufacturers-cheat-and-hide-true-energy-costs Thu, 22 Sep 2016 12:23:34 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 15781@/talks/discussions

Real-World Tests of Samsung, LG, and Vizio TVs Show Much Higher Energy-Consumption Going Undetected Due to Apparent Circumvention of the Flawed DOE Test Method.

There are flaws in the government’s method for testing the energy use of televisions and three major TV manufacturers representing half of the U.S. market appear to be exploiting them, which could cost owners of recently purchased models an extra $1.2 billion on their utility bills, according to an analysis released today by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

Samsung, LG, and Vizio also have designed their TVs to disable energy-saving features whenever users change the main picture setting, doing so with no or little adequate on-screen warning, which can boost energy use by 50 to 100 percent, or more. Manufacturers are likely designing their televisions this way as a means to increase the brightness of the television screen in an attempt to enhance perceived owner satisfaction, but the extra energy use is not accounted for in the DOE test.

The latest version of ultra high-definition (UHD) TVs used approximately 30 to 50 percent more energy when playing content produced with High Dynamic Range (HDR) than conventional UHD content. In addition, the TV’s energy-saving features were automatically disabled whenever HDR content was played. HDR-capable TVs deliver bolder colors, brighter images, and higher contrast that will make the format increasingly popular but the test method does not include HDR content so the extra energy use is not reflected.

At least you know that due to this guy your otherwise perfect by hardware TV is doing weird things that affect the picture.

HP Inc. agreed to buy Samsung Electronics Co. ’s printer business for $1.05 billion, a deal designed to bolster the Silicon Valley company’s offerings in the market for high-volume devices that handle printing and copying for office work groups.

The companies estimate it will take one year to close, pending the usual regulatory scrutiny, and, upon doing so, Samsung will make a reciprocal investment of between $100 million and $300 million into HP’s business.

Samsung’s printer divisions employs around 6,000 people — around 1,300 of whom are in R&D — with 50 sales offices across the world and a production base that is located in China. In addition to that business, which recorded nearly $1.8 billion in revenue last year, HP will also get its hands on a “compelling” portfolio of around 6,500 printing patents.

HDMI connectors in small cameras can go away http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15653/hdmi-connectors-in-small-cameras-can-go-away Sun, 04 Sep 2016 06:36:14 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 15653@/talks/discussions

HDMI Licensing, LLC today announced that it is releasing the HDMI Alternate Mode (“Alt Mode”) developed by the HDMI Founders for the USB Type-C™ Specification. This will allow HDMI-enabled source devices to utilize a USB Type-C connector to directly connect to HDMI-enabled displays, and deliver native HDMI signals over a simple cable without the need for cumbersome protocol and connector adapters or dongles.

image

This enables two of the most popular solutions for connectivity to come together—the small form factor, reversible, and multi-purpose USB Type-C connector being adopted by smartphones, tablets and PC products, and HDMI, which is the leading display interface with an installed base of billions of displays. Almost 290 million HDMI-enabled display devices are expected to ship in 2016, including projectors, monitors and 100 percent of flat panel TVs.

HDMI Alt Mode will support the full range of HDMI 1.4b features such as: resolutions up to 4K, Audio Return Channel (ARC), 3D, HDMI Ethernet Channel, and Consumer Electronic Control (CEC). The HDMI cable will utilize the USB Type-C connector on the source side and any HDMI connector on the display side. Unlike the other Alt Mode display technologies which require various adapters or dongles to connect to HDMI displays, HDMI Alt Mode enables an easy connection via a simple USB Type-C to HDMI cable.

For now it is only HDMI 1.4b, but it is enough good inceptive to save on connectors and leave only one - USB-C .

To properly mess with consumer mind it is enough to have 3 main lines - G for DSLR like bodies, GX for Sony NEX like design and GH for guys who also want good video and want to pay premium.

But, as they understood, just 3 lines is not enough. They also want to make 4 levels inside each of this 3 lines.

Now they will have GH5 for pros, GH50 for one who pretend to be one, GH500 for shit looking like good camera and GH5000 for real trash.

Most probably on upcoming Photokina GH5 will be new camera having 4K at 60fps, GH4 will be renamed as GH50, GH3 will be renamed GH500 and GH2 will make another entry as GH5000. Joking.

HEVC based DVB-T2 in 1080p50 starting in Germany on 2016-06-01 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15148/hevc-based-dvb-t2-in-1080p50-starting-in-germany-on-2016-06-01 Mon, 30 May 2016 15:34:58 +0000 karl 15148@/talks/discussions Two days from now we'll know what the "theoretically best terrestic over-the-air TV broadcast service" announced so far will look like.

I'm writing "theoretically", because on paper the specifications look promising: HEVC encoded 1080p50 video - that's better than the existing 1080i format broadcasted over DVB-T2 in other countries. And up to 26.56 Mbit/s per channel would, theoretically, be enough for very good quality.

But then of course we all know that cost reduction will dictate that not quite the possible quality will be seen in pratice. They will certainly squeeze multiple programmes into those 25.56 Mbit/s, and at least one moronic TV-station (ZDF) has already announced that they will feed the broadcast from their 720p50 production infrastructure, only "upscaling" right before HEVC encoding. (And yes, ZDF mostly gets 1080i material, which they first have to downscale, de-interlace and frame-interpolate to 720p50 - so we can be sure that at least that channel will look like crap.)

But still I'm curious to see what this will look like and tune my LG OLED TV to the new terrestial signal, just for the fun of it.

(To anyone already receiving 4k channels via sattelite, this is certainly boring news - but even not many of those send progressive 50 frames per second.)
