We present a systematic characterization of wafer-level reliability dedicated test structures in Back-Side-Illuminated CMOS Image Sensors. Noise and electrical measurements performed at different steps of the fabrication process flow, definitely demonstrate that the wafer flipping/bonding/thinning and VIA opening proper of the Back-Side-Illuminated configuration cause the creation of oxide donor-like border traps. Respect to conventional Front-Side-Illuminated CMOS Image Sensors, the presence of these traps causes degradation of the transistors electrical performance, altering the oxide electric field and shifting the flat-band voltage, and strongly degrades also reliability. Results from Time-Dependent Dielectric Breakdown and Negative Bias Temperature Instability measurements outline the impact of those border traps on the lifetime prediction.

image

TDDB measurements were performed on n-channel Tx at 125C, applying a gate stress voltage Vstress in the range +7 to +7.6V. For each Vstress several samples were tested and the time-to-breakdown was measured adopting the three criteria defined in the JEDEC standard JESD92 [21]. For each stress condition, the fit of the Weibull distribution of the time-to-breakdown values gave the corresponding Time-to Failure (TTF). Then, the TTFs were plotted vs. Vstress in a log-log scale and the lifetime at the operating gate voltage was extrapolated with a power law (E-model [22]).

NBTI measurements were performed on p-channel Tx at 125C, applying Vstress in the range -3 to -4V. Again, several Tx were tested. Following the JEDEC standard JESD90, in this case, lifetime is defined as the stress time required to have a 10% shift of the nominal VT. The VT shift has a power law dependence on the stress time and the lifetime value at the operating gate voltage could be extrapolated.

image

We found that the donor-like border traps affect also the Back-Side device long term performance. Time Dependent Dielectric Breakdown and Negative Bias Temperature Instability measurements were performed to evaluate lifetime. As expected, the role of border traps in the lifetime prediction is different in the two cases, but the reliability degradation of Back-Side with respect to Front-Side-Illuminated CMOS Image Sensors is evident in any case.

Renewal of the Meyer Optik Görlitz http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/22372/renewal-of-the-meyer-optik-goerlitz Sat, 03 Aug 2019 11:29:01 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 22372@/talks/discussions PR

Renewal of the Meyer Optik Görlitz portfolio on schedule

  • Optimization of the first lens completed
  • Further new versions of previous lenses in progress
  • First completely new development finalized / more to follow
  • Cooperation with Fotomuseum Görlitz & the City of Görlitz

Meyer Optik is pushing the revision and optimization of its existing portfolio and has already completed its first projects. The developments are thus on schedule and the first Meyer Optik lenses developed and produced by OPC will be available in late summer 2019.

"We have analyzed the entire existing portfolio, identified optimization potential and categorized it according to effort. This approach now enables us to efficiently optimize lens by lens and to publish in a timely manner," explains Timo Heinze, Managing Director of OPC Optics. "We are currently in the prototype phase of the first optimized lens and are confident that we will achieve an increase in the mechanical quality and imaging performance of this and all other lenses. Depending on the individual lens, the scope of these improvements and changes will of course vary. The unique image language of every individual lens will be retained of course."

Optimization of the first new version finalized

During the analysis process it turned out that the first new edition will be the Trioplan 100. This new Trioplan 100 II is currently in the prototype phase and will be the first revised lens to be released.

"The previous Trioplan 100 is a good lens and its success proves it right. We have received an unbelievable number of enquiries about the availability of the Trioplan 100 and see many posts in the social media from satisfied photographers who proudly present their Trioplan pictures. Our technical analysis also showed that the previous Trioplan 100 is simply a good lens, and yet we were able to introduce and implement improvements here and there. This applies on the one hand to the mechanics and on the other hand to the optics itself in terms of contrast behavior and resolution. We are confident that our current prototype tests will confirm this and that we will be able to start serial production immediately after completion of the test series," explains Heinze.

Further improved, new editions in progress

Also, under development are the Trioplan 50 / 35+, Lydith 30 and Primoplan 58 / 75, which will receive a complete redesign of the mechanics and outer geometry. In addition, the optical calculations and the glass itself will of course also be put to the test and examined for optimization potential.

Of these lenses, the Trioplan 50 will now be completed next, followed by the Lydith 30 and the Primoplan 75. The optimization work will then be completed with the Primoplan 58 and the Trioplan 35+.

With the Trioplan 50, the mechanics and outer geometry as well as the optical calculation were completely revised so that a better haptic and a considerably improved imaging performance are to be achieved. These theoretical optimizations must now be verified in real use. The necessary prototypes are currently in production and will then be extensively tested.

The selling prices of the new versions are not yet fixed. However, we are working hard to optimize production and internal processes so that the new lenses can be offered at realistic and attractive prices without compromising quality and precision.

First completely new development finalized / more to follow\

As already announced, Meyer Optik will also launch completely new lenses on the market. Under the venerable name "Primagon", a completely new lens will probably be launched this year. The elaborately constructed design consists of 8 lenses in 6 assemblies and will appear as Primagon 50 f2.0. Further details such as an exact publication date, prices, available mounts, technical details, etc. will be published in due course.

Cooperation with Fotomuseum Görlitz and the city of Görlitz

Meyer Optik will work closely with the Fotomuseum Görlitz and the city of Görlitz in the future. Among other things, the 5th Photo Festival in Görlitz (30.08. - 22.09.2019), which is organized by Fotomuseum Görlitz e.V., will be supported by Meyer Optik. As a part of this event, employees of Meyer Optik / OPC Optics will be on site during the opening weekend and will be happy to talk to anyone interested.

The firm’s website promoted smartphone-based use-cases on its front page until July 31 2019, according to the Wayback Machine. From August 2019, it featured automotive use-cases instead.

The company attracted attention in 2015 when it launched the Light L16 camera, a compact camera that actually featured 16 lenses. Light touted numerous benefits for this tech, including improved HDR and higher resolution shots.

All of their products showed big issues stitching multiple images. And it seems like ptoblem is unsolvable in present time.

Going into auto industry they can use only parts of images that can be stitched good, and tell the algorithsm to ignore other parts.

“After nearly four years at GoPro where Danny was instrumental in transforming our design function, Danny decided to take his career expertise and family back to his native New Zealand to begin a new chapter of his life,” a spokesman for San Mateo, California-based GoPro told Bloomberg News. Coster’s last day at the company was in February, the spokesman added.

In April, GoPro cut more than 20% of its workforce, shifted its sales strategy away from physical retail to direct-to-consumer, and cut its 2020 financial guidance due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Still, action camera hardware is key to GoPro’s future, and the departure of Coster means the loss of an influential product and design leader.

Sony Corporation today announced the upcoming release of two models of intelligent vision sensors, the first image sensors in the world to be equipped with AI processing functionality. Including AI processing functionality on the image sensor itself enables high-speed edge AI processing and extraction of only the necessary data, which, when using cloud services, reduces data transmission latency, minimizes any privacy concerns, and reduces power consumption and communication costs.

These products expand the opportunities to develop AI-equipped cameras, enabling a diverse range of applications in the retail and industrial equipment industries and contributing to building optimal systems that link with the cloud.

The spread of IoT has resulted in all types of devices being connected to the cloud, making commonplace the use of information processing systems where information obtained from such devices is processed via AI on the cloud. On the other hand, the increasing volume of information handled in the cloud poses various problems: increased data transmission latency hindering real-time information processing; security concerns from users associated with storing personally identifiable data in the cloud; and other issues such as the increased power consumption and communication costs cloud services entail.

The new sensor products feature a stacked configuration consisting of a pixel chip and logic chip. They are the world's first image sensor to be equipped with AI image analysis and processing functionality on the logic chip. The signal acquired by the pixel chip is processed via AI on the sensor, eliminating the need for high-performance processors or external memory, enabling the development of edge AI systems. The sensor outputs metadata (semantic information belonging to image data) instead of image information, making for reduced data volume and minimizing any privacy concerns. Moreover, the AI capability makes it possible to deliver diverse functionality for versatile applications, such as real-time object tracking with high-speed AI processing. Different AI models can also be chosen by rewriting internal memory in accordance with user requirements or the conditions of the location where the system is being used.

image

Main Features

  • World's first image sensor equipped with AI processing functionality
The pixel chip is back-illuminated and has approximately 12.3 effective megapixels for capturing information across a wide angle of view. In addition to the conventional image sensor operation circuit, the logic chip is equipped with Sony's original DSP(Digital Signal Processor) dedicated to AI signal processing, and memory for the AI model. This configuration eliminates the need for high-performance processors or external memory, making it ideal for edge AI systems.
  • Metadata output
Signals acquired by the pixel chip are run through an ISP (Image Signal Processor) and AI processing is done in the process stage on the logic chip, and the extracted information is output as metadata, reducing the amount of data handled. Ensuring that image information is not output helps to reduce security risks and minimizing any privacy concerns. In addition to the image recorded by the conventional image sensor, users can select the data output format according to their needs and uses, including ISP format output images (YUV/RGB) and ROI (Region of Interest) specific area extract images.
  • High-speed AI processing
When a video is recorded using a conventional image sensor, it is necessary to send data for each individual output image frame for AI processing, resulting in increased data transmission and making it difficult to deliver real-time performance. The new sensor products from Sony perform ISP processing and high-speed AI processing (3.1 milliseconds processing for MobileNet V1*2) on the logic chip, completing the entire process in a single video frame. This design makes it possible to deliver high-precision, real-time tracking of objects while recording video.
  • Selectable AI model
Users can write the AI models of their choice to the embedded memory and can rewrite and update it according to its requirements or the conditions of the location where the system is being used. For example, when multiple cameras employing this product are installed in a retail location, a single type of camera can be used with versatility across different locations, circumstances, times, or purposes. When installed at the entrance to the facility it can be used to count the number of visitors entering the facility; when installed on the shelf of a store it can be used to detect stock shortages; when on the ceiling it can be used for heat mapping store visitors (detecting locations where many people gather), and the like. Furthermore, the AI model in a given camera can be rewritten from one used to detect heat maps to one for identifying consumer behavior, and so on.

The team and I are solely focused on developing appropriate plans for IBC2020. At the moment, we remain committed to delivering a successful IBC2020 this September at the RAI Amsterdam. That is our objective, provided we can deliver, first and foremost, a safe environment for everyone, and second, an audience which will deliver the level of engagement you, our exhibitors, expect from IBC.

The Covid-19 pandemic has placed specific strains on the media industry. We have the same challenges as anyone else in protecting staff and maintaining a safe working environment. But the eyes of the world are literally upon us, turning to trusted news media as never before for information and guidance, as well as entertainment while so many are confined to our homes.

IBC is organised by the industry for the industry, and so it feels the strains of the present day very keenly. However, it also recognises the need to get back to business as soon as possible, and so we continue to develop plans for IBC this September.

Working together, we believe that we can create an event that will play a vital role in helping the industry get back on track.

The IBC team is closely monitoring developments around the world. We are in daily contact with the City of Amsterdam and the management team at the RAI. They, in turn, are working with all their key stakeholders, from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) to KLM and Schiphol Airport. Please be assured that we are not blindly heading towards an event come what may: on behalf of the whole industry IBC needs to ensure the event – if we can make it happen – is safe and successful.

"Steptoe has secured a significant trial victory for Autel Robotics USA at the US International Trade Commission (ITC). On March 2, the chief administrative law judge of the ITC found that SZ DJI Technology Co. Ltd. and seven related entities (together known as “DJI”), the world’s largest maker of consumer drones, violated Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930, as amended, by importing and selling drones that infringe US Patent No. 9, 260,184 belonging to Autel.

  • Following CDC recommendations and protocols for heightened levels of cleanliness at event facilities.
  • Making accommodations and actively encouraging attendees to take common-sense precautions and follow CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of illness.
  • Ensuring medical care is readily accessible to address immediate health concerns.
  • Working with China-based exhibitors and registered attendees to evaluate options for those unable to attend due to travel restrictions. Of note, NAB Show attendance from China, although growing, represented less than 2 percent of total registered attendees in 2019.
  • NAB is taking COVID-19 very seriously and is fully invested and prepared to host a successful NAB Show in Las Vegas. The city of Las Vegas is maintaining rigorous cleanliness and safety standards throughout public spaces, resorts and meeting facilities, and hosts successful trade events daily. Meanwhile, NAB Show has experienced an uptick in exhibit sales, attendee registration and hotel bookings in recent weeks, and conference program speakers are confirmed daily.

  • Main focus will be on new RF mount lenses
  • New cinema lenses also, but prices will jump and firm want to focus on rental houses mostly
  • Tight attention for Nikon Z mouns and Sony E mount, FF lenses widening
  • L mount will be now left with much less attention, due to big sales drop and risk of making such lenses
  • Attention for APS-C and m43 lenses will be minimal due to issues with sales, can be cheap F2.8 primes

With economic uncertainty ahead, does 8K matter? Will consumers even care about 8K? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23790/with-economic-uncertainty-ahead-does-8k-matter-will-consumers-even-care-about-8k Thu, 23 Apr 2020 16:57:06 +0000 Madman 23790@/talks/discussions With the current pandemic situation, and uncertainty around the world economy, I wonder if 8K is really going to matter.

Look back at the recession of 2008. We had Blu-ray and 1080p. Consumers did not care. They had to worry about keeping their jobs, eating, and feeding their family. Nobody cared that they needed to buy a Bluray player or a 1080p TV if they did not have one. As such, DVDs were still vastly more popular than Bluray because they were cheaper, and the video quality was better than VHS! Even today in 2020, DVD marketshare is still larger than Bluray because they are very cheap, there is a huge used DVD market, and the quality of a nicely mastered DVD is good for most TV-viewing distance.

I think it's possible this will be the same situation for 8K. The high requirements for 8K doesn't make sense for artists or consumers at this time, especially when nobody has money to spend. Most consumers in 2020 are happy with 1080p. Enthusiasts love 4K right now. Many movie theaters still project films in 4K and 6K. But the amount of people that even know about 8K is so small, I don't see it being a priority for anyone. Plus, if you shoot your indie film in 8K - how many viewers will have an 8K TV? Few or none. Not to mention you will need at least a 200mbit+ internet connection to stream compressed 8K, and even in the United States, only residents of big cities have access to that. My family outside the city still only have 30mbit - and this is in the US!

With the economic uncertainty ahead, I think 4K / UHD will remain the standard for several years in consumer products. Even in 2020, 1080p remains the standard for computer monitors, and cable TV still streams at 1080i.

So my prediction is that 1080p & 2160p will continue to remain standard for this coming decade. But 8K will not take off for consumers.

8K will be the standard for VR only (VR video and images).

What do you think?

Canon Coming Firmware Updates for Professional Imaging Products http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/23782/canon-coming-firmware-updates-for-professional-imaging-products Tue, 21 Apr 2020 02:27:13 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 23782@/talks/discussions

Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced upcoming firmware updates for several professional imaging products, such as XF-AVC 4K 30p recording on the popular XF705 Professional Camcorder. These firmware updates provide improved workflow, ease-of-use, file editing compatibility with popular NLE systems, and creative flexibility for products in the Cinema EOS, Professional Camcorder, and 4K Reference Display lines.

Firmware updates for the EOS C300 Mark III, EOS C500 Mark II, EOS C700, EOS C700 FF, EOS C700 GS, EOS C200, and EOS C200B Cinema Cameras will allow for support of the new CINE-SERVO 25-250mm T2.95-3.95 (CN10x25 IAS S) Cinema Lens. Additional free firmware updates are as follows:

  • The XF705 Professional Camcorder update will include the addition of several recording formats, such as XF-AVC 8-bit 4:2:0 up to 4K 30p and MP4 8-bit 4:2:0 up to FHD 60p. Other updates include pull-down 60p signal to 24p/30p recording, browser remote use for both Wi-Fi® and Ethernet connections, and HDR high-frame shooting support.
  • The EOS C300 Mark III  Digital Cinema Camera update will now show the chosen resolution and color sampling settings on the onscreen display by default.
  • The EOS C500 Mark II Digital Cinema Camera update will allow for support of XF-AVC Long GOP and XF-AVC Proxy format, 3 or 5 seconds pre-recording ability, pull-down 60p signal to 24p/30p recording, "magnify" assignable button change, and user ability to give two files an identical name when recording from both card slots.
  • The EOS C700, C700 FF, and C700 GS Digital Cinema Cameras will update the Slow & Fast Motion display, including changing "REC" and "STBY" notification colors from white to red and green respectively.
  • The EOS C200 and C200B update will allow for support of pull-down 60p signal to 24p/30p recording and the simultaneous use of both HDMI and SDI ports.
  • The DP-V1710, DP-V1711, DP-V2410, DP-V2411, DP-V2420, DP-V2421, and DP-V3120 4K Reference Display updates include support for the reading of 3D-LUT/1D- LUT files in .cube LUT file format and tracking of errors to USB memory. Other updated support includes HDR monitoring assist functions such as the ability to check XY chromaticity value of pixels, area markers will be simultaneously displayed in two locations, expansion of the safety zone/grid markers, and the ability to highlight the areas above the desired luminance range. Also, the update will support enhanced ease-of-use and workflow with third party cameras.
  • The DP-V2411, DP-V1711 and DPV-1710 4K Reference Displays update will improve full-screen black level all the way down to .001 nits. This is a major upgrade over the previous specification of .005 nits.

Paid Firmware Updates Details Are as Follows:

  • The DP-V1711 and DP-V1710 4K Reference Displays paid firmware updates will offer an upgrade license and will raise full-screen peak luminance from 600 to 1000 nits. Also, full-screen peak luminance is now supported by a local dimming algorithm from 300 to 600 nits. The combined updates/upgrades listed here (both paid and free) for these reference displays would completely overhaul the image quality, which would be an impressive 1,000,000:1 full-screen contrast ratio.
