Follow focus and gears Wed, 17 Jan 18 18:49:16 -0700 Follow focus and gears en-CA Electric FF under $1k? Wed, 03 Jan 2018 22:52:11 -0700 upwithmike 18642@/talks/discussions I'm looking for an electric FF that I can use with a thumbwheel on my gimbal and shoulder rig, wireless is great but wired is also fine. Would be nice if I had the option to add a wireless remote with wheel and hard stops at a later time.

There seem to be several on the horizon, like the Tilta Nucleus-M and Nucleus-N, Zhiyun's mechanical FF, and the Filmpower Nebula FF all sound great but when are any of them actually going to be available? I'm also looking at some of the Ikan and Redrock FF systems, but they're a little outside of my budget. Any others I should be aware of?

Follow focus handgrip "Zacuto-style" based on classic FF design - ideas... Tue, 01 May 2012 05:03:54 -0600 Tobsen 3067@/talks/discussions I watched the following clip from Zacuto's booth at NAB 2012 and was quite amazed at this simple, but effective FF design tht would help me with my daily shooting at work:

So I started screwing around with my old Ikan FF (which has a lot of backlash btw) and noticed that with a few modifications I might be able to build a wired handgrip FF myself for little money. imageimage

Nebula Focus special designed for gyro stabilizer and individual shooter. Its receiver and motor are built 2 in 1 making it more compact for setup, also it provides two ways for setup: you can directly connect it with the hot shoe or you can use a traditional slide. Beside the wireless design, silent motor and a long battery life, the Nebula Focus supports ultrasonic distance measurement with an instant display on the Thumb remote controller, the most impressive thing is that this function may get updated to achieve Auto Focus in the future.

Remote Follow focus GH5 Fri, 28 Apr 2017 19:25:35 -0600 alcomposer 16824@/talks/discussions Currently I don't know of any way to smoothly control GH5 Panasonic lenses via remote manual focus.

Canon has the ability to control lens focus via USB port on camera, and you can buy on eBay devices that plug in and have rotary encoders for follow focus.

I believe that the 2nd firmware update will bring USB tethering to GH5, if so it would be amazing to have similar solution.

Let Panasonic know your thoughts here.

Also- if anyone knows of way to do wireless - or wired follow focus on GH5 (without additional motors) please post.

CAME TV wireless Follow focus Wed, 16 Dec 2015 04:12:19 -0700 tired 14227@/talks/discussions This is a quick what's in the box video of the CAME TV Wireless Follow Focus. It's a great little unit, compact, quiet and does what it's supposed to - adjust focus remotely. I'm finding more uses than I originally thought and I can see it replacing my mechanical follow focus on most occasions.

I intend to make a series of these showing the unit in action and running a couple of tests regarding battery life, repeatability etc.

I have a short film coming up the the next couple of months where the final scene involves a slow track in on a woman on a bench, it's midnight, there's fireworks and she's crying - easy! The FF becomes a necessity here but after playing around with it, there are so many other situations where I can make use of it.

Interviews - the FF can be used to adjust focus during in an interview situation if you haven't got a camera operator to do the job.

Jib - If I plan a jib shot I set the foreground out of focus but with the FF I can adjust focus throughout the move.

I use a shoulder rig on occasion so I might try to set the transmitter up on one of the arms and see what happens.

If there's anything anyone want's to know or a test they're interested in seeing done - let me know.

Simply slide the DB-1 Motor Unit onto your camera's 15mm rod support system, slip on the lens belt, adjust tension and lock into place. (There's a stretch-goal for 19mm rods too.) Plug in the battery and with a flip of a switch, you're ready to go.

This system will work with virtually any DSLR lens with a manual lens ring on the market. (See our FAQ for lens compatibility)

GH4 wired remote focus Sat, 02 Aug 2014 06:31:38 -0600 Lanz1 10951@/talks/discussions Hi guys. After using my hacked GH2 for 3 years I just got my GH4, and I'm already in love with it. It happens sometimes that is use the camera on a glidecam or a gimbal and I would like to have to ability to pull focus without touching the rig. Nothing super-precise, I rent a wireless follow focus when I need it, but when I shoot alone a remote focus cable would do the trick. I tried the wi-fi app, but having an assistant with an iPad is not an option :) I can't fin any information on the web about a panasonic/lanc cable capable of pulling focus over lumix. Do you know if there is any? Thank you!

FLEX Seamless Follow Focus Gears by Proactive Group Thu, 19 May 2016 00:57:04 -0600 neirotransformer 15091@/talks/discussions Seems precise made and inexpencive (US $9.90 on ebay) compare to other rings.

The gears are designed for ANY LENS diameter from 50 to 93mm!

Separate gear made for each diameter of 1 mm increments!

The gears are made of rigid polyurethane, that stretches a little bit, when you put the gear on.

The correct form of the teeth module 0.8.

It came last week and this weekend i've managed to spend an hour or two fiddling with it and making up a super cheap and nasty looking setup that sort of looks functional for stops that you judge by eye rather than hard stops that stop you. There's a super quick video of its operation here

There are more details of the construction in the description of the video on vimeo.

Very much version 1 that looks super cheap, but i think will do for now. I'm looking for improvements on the marker attached to or under the jar opener, as well as the markers themselves, along with the possibility of hard stops.
