Big issue that it starts not from 0 ND, but from 3 stops ND. Trashing most of the idea.

Will be available in about 2 to 3 months and it will be around $650.

Second Lens adapter on a speedbooster / focal reducer mount? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15681/second-lens-adapter-on-a-speedbooster-focal-reducer-mount Wed, 07 Sep 2016 16:02:36 +0000 VortekShow 15681@/talks/discussions Hey, quick question. Focal reducers convert a camera mount to modern mount, however I use only vintage lenses and I had the question wether you could adapt from the focal reducer mount to different lens mounts by adding an additional adapter. I don't think this would work but maybe somebody can explain it to me.

SLR Magic Image Enhance Pro filter http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15597/slr-magic-image-enhance-pro-filter Sun, 28 Aug 2016 12:15:16 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 15597@/talks/discussions

SLR Magic introduces the The SLR Magic Image Enhancer Pro (IE Pro), a unique filter suitable for use in both photography and cinematography to help increase image clarity and restore color shift issues introduced by light contamination beyond the visible spectrum to digital sensors. The filter will be officially introduced during the BIRTV 2016 show in Beijing.

The IE Pro is a unique filter that optimizes the light spectrum from 200nm to 1,200mn to ensure light rays passing through the filter are natural to the human eye. The digital imaging sensors’ greater susceptibility to infrared light contamination leads to colorcasts when shooting subjects at instances where the light source has increased levels of infrared light that is not visible to the human eye.

Traditional UV/IR filters are commonly used to address color shift and infrared contamination. However, hot mirror type UV/IR filters sold as 680nm, 700nm, 715nm, or 750nm rating typically cut out the red spectrum along with infrared spectrum to produce blacker blacks but will create an unnatural skin tone reproduction. At times, traditional UV/IR cut filters produce a green or red color shift when certain lenses wider than 35mm are used. The SLR Magic IE Pro is designed to work with lenses from wide angle to telephoto.

The SLR Magic IE Pro is designed for use on digital cameras for both photography and cinematography. The light spectrum curve with IE Pro shows the optimization of light transmission through unique attenuation of light in the light spectrum leading to improved clarity within the image and more tonal depth. IE Pro can be positioned in front of your lenses with or without electronic ND filter or in front of your ND filter or variable ND filters. 50-layers of multi-coating is used in the IE Pro to minimize reflections and flare, thus achieving a unique level of optimization across the entire light spectrum as well as attenuate UV and Infrared light to minimize chances of colorcasts and ensure cleaner blacks and truer skin tones.

After I heard of the Fotodiox ND Throttle, I got really excited. But after doing some research, disappointment washed over me, as I saw a lot of people complaining that it came apart when used with heavier lenses. So now I'm on the lookout for a better option, if you guys know of any? Thanks!

Parfocal zoom lenses are really hard to come by, but I know that some special adapters offers adjustments from the back focus/flange in order to get a very close parfocal use from the lens.

So, which one correspond to this ? I have a RJ Nikon to mf3 adapter (an old version). But what else is out there and are they worthwhile ? What other change the RJ adapters offers now and is it worth the change ?

Thanks to answer

FilmCity MB7 Mattebox http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/15220/filmcity-mb7-mattebox Wed, 15 Jun 2016 01:48:32 +0000 madmarkfilms 15220@/talks/discussions To keep things separated, like @Vitaliy_Kiselev suggested, let's talk about the FilmCity MB7 Mattebox here @fotosiamo.

Seriously, for like the 230$ I paid at the time (can't find it anymore on ebay), it's a solid contender for such filter sizes. Filter trays are ABS plastic, not aluminum like the RedRock Micro, but again, at ¼ of the price, that's something I can live with. It's virtually a blueprint of the RedRock Micro one in almost every aspect. As for the swing-away mechanism, it's pretty much the same thing. Not the best design, but works pretty well. The whole thing isn't heavy, despite the size of the MB. It's lighter than the CINEMATICS, as it's not 95% metal.

General Questions on Filters for DLSM Video http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/4333/general-questions-on-filters-for-dlsm-video Wed, 22 Aug 2012 17:34:40 +0000 Aria 4333@/talks/discussions Being a Newbie I've been somewhat confused about selecting and the proper use of Filters in particular for Video on a DSLM like the GH1/2.

  1. If I use a Polarizer does that negate the need for a UV Filter?
  2. If I use a Variable ND does that negate the need for a Polarizer?
  3. Is there a negative effect from using several different types of filters let say a UV, Polarizer and Vari ND all at once or is there a net positive effect from using all 3?
  4. What is the best pattern to organize the filters on the lens if using a variety of filter types. ie. Vari ND 1st, then Polarizer, then UV?
  5. Is it best to buy the best SET of filters from the same brand or the best individual filters from different brands.
  6. Is there some kind of rating system for Filters that can be used to compare their effectiveness? ie effect on sharpness, color etc. How would someone actually choose one filter from another to find the best one if there is no rating system? Is there a really reliable resource on the Web?

Sorry if there is some thread that covers this, but I haven't come across any that concisely address this topic.

A $40 variable ND filter that surprisingly doesn't suck http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11263/a-40-variable-nd-filter-that-surprisingly-doesnt-suck Fri, 12 Sep 2014 18:39:38 +0000 Sangye 11263@/talks/discussions I broke my L.C.W Fader Variable ND II a while back, and finally got around to replacing it. I decided to give the Bower variable ND a try, at $40. Bower makes decent lenses, so I thought I might luck out.

And luck out, I did. It's definitely better than the L.C.W, with much less bokeh striation / "texture", no noticeable color shift up to the strongest setting, and the characteristic 'X' pattern only shows up at the very strongest settings (7/8+), as opposed to on the L.C.W where it dominates the image at every strength above 2/3 or so. I haven't tried many higher end variable ND filters, but I'd like to see how this one stacks up against them. So far I'm very impressed.

The only issue I have noticed is that the first 1/5 of the adjustment throw seems to go from a strong polarizing effect to a more transparent effect, without any ND loss or gain. After that the polarizing effect stays minimal, and the neutral density increases as expected. On the plus side, this quirk might mean that the filter could double as both a variable ND filter, and as a linear polarizer.

It just arrived and these are my preliminary impressions -- I'll post more in-depth thoughts with image samples soon.

SLR MAGIC-RANGEFINDER CINE Adapter http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13109/slr-magic-rangefinder-cine-adapter Wed, 03 Jun 2015 13:57:12 +0000 grisnjam 13109@/talks/discussions My apologies if there is already a topic on this ...

Thoughts on this new adapter from SLR magic?

PR:

The SLR MAGIC-RANGEFINDER CINE Adapter is an optical device with integrated follow focus gears. When adapted to a compatible taking lens, one could override the focus control of the taking lens with the RANGEFINDER’s built-in focus ring that provides calibrated focus markings from 3’6 ft to Infinity.

The SLR MAGIC-RANGEFINDER CINE Adapter is highly recommended for users wanting to have single focus capability on the SLR Magic Anamorphot adapters as well as users wanting to have cinema like manual focus capabilities on autofocus lenses.

It seems that it acts as a external focusing mechanism that sits in front of the lens. I figure you set your lens (or taking lens + anamorphic adapter pair) at infinity focus and then you can use the range finder to control focus with the benefits of:

  1. focus gears
  2. hard stops
  3. distance markings
  4. repeatable focus pulls even on fly by wire lenses
  5. a single focus for dual focus anamorphic setups

This is what I read into the announcement at least.

It pretty much works as expected (terrible AF performance, functional aperture control, havent tested stabilization yet) with one caveat. It seems that the depth dimension of the adapter is too small because Ive lost alot of close focus ability with the lens and it focuses way past infinity. The focus scale is all messed up, pointing to poor design of the thickness of the adapter. At the 2 foot mark its already focusing at infinity. Ive had this issue with pretty much every other (dumb) adapter Ive used, so Im not very surprised. Still sucks, though.

This is with my Tokina 11-20, by the way.

I read both threads about Mitakon and RJ speed booster but i still can't decide which one is better.

It seems both suffer of blue dot. It seems Mitakon is sharper in the center and blurrer in the corners but RJ is less sharper than Mita in the center but it is more sharp in the overall. I read Mitakon has some color issues Mitakon is a bit more expensive than JR and built quality seems to be better than JR. I'm also worried because Mitakon has another Speed booster in the second version of the product and EF-MFT speedbooster is just in the first version. Should I wait? How much better is the second version compared with the first one?

I'm quite confused about this two Speed Boosters. I'm going to use it mainly with a Kiron Kino Precision 28mm f2 and a Helios 44-2 58mm f2

Please, could you give me your impressions and final thoughts about this two lenses?

Thanks in advance
