Blackmagic Design today announced Blackmagic Video Assist 4K, a portable all in one professional monitor and video recorder that can be used to add professional recording and monitoring to any SDI or HDMI camera. Blackmagic Video Assist 4K features a bright, high resolution 7 inch monitor for checking focus and framing, two high speed recorders for non-stop HD and Ultra HD recording, two extremely high quality XLR microphone inputs for professional audio recording, a built in speaker and more.

The Blackmagic Video Assist 4K is perfect for customers that need better monitoring and higher quality recording. Older cameras often feature custom and hard to use file or tape formats, while lower cost consumer cameras often have poor quality file formats and small screens, limiting their professional use. Blackmagic Video Assist 4K solves this problem because it works with every type of camera from DSLRs to older tape based camcorders, and even the latest digital film cameras.

Blackmagic Video Assist 4K features two built in high speed UHS-II recorders that work with the latest high performance SD cards, making them fast enough to record Ultra HD video up to 2160p30 on widely available, inexpensive SD cards. Files are saved as broadcast quality 10-bit 4:2:2 video in either ProRes or DNxHD formats, making them compatible with all popular editing software, like DaVinci Resolve, so you can start editing immediately without having to transcode or convert files. Recording can be triggered to start and stop using LANC or over HDMI or SDI from the camera. With two built in recorders, customers get non-stop recording because when one card is full it automatically continues onto the next. The new high speed SD cards are compatible with existing SD card readers so they can be mounted directly on a computer for cloning and backup using the included DaVinci Resolve software.

Blackmagic Video Assist 4K is also an extremely high quality audio recorder that features two mini XLR inputs with 48V of phantom power so customers can attach external microphones. This totally eliminates the problems with auto gain controls on DLSR cameras and, with an amazing low electrical noise floor of -128dBV, the recordings are incredibly high quality and sound dramatically better than camera audio. Sound is recorded into the same file as the video, so customers don’t have to worry about AV sync between separate audio and video files!

Durable and lightweight, the Blackmagic Video Assist 4K features a bright, 7 inch high resolution 1920 x 1200 monitor and touchscreen with a wide 135º viewing angle. The extra resolution of the screen lets customers view 16:9 sources and see critical status information without covering the image. The display is also a touchscreen that lets customers use simple tap and swipe gestures to display camera information, change settings and evaluate audio and video levels. Blackmagic Video Assist 4K features an elegant heads up display overlay that lets customers keep their eyes on the shot while viewing the current input frame rate, histogram, audio meters, timecode and more.

For power, Blackmagic Video Assist 4K features two standard LP-E6 battery slots that allow hot swapping of batteries while in use, and it can be powered using the 12V DC input. The batteries are discharged serially, so only 1 is used at a time. When there’s power, the batteries are charged in parallel, which saves time when recharging.

Blackmagic DeckLink 8K Pro Card http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/18254/blackmagic-decklink-8k-pro-card Thu, 16 Nov 2017 15:26:13 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 18254@/talks/discussions image

Blackmagic Design today announced DeckLink 8K Pro, a new high performance capture and playback card featuring quad link 12G‑SDI to allow real time high resolution 8K workflows. This new DeckLink 8K Pro breaks new ground in high quality as it supports all film and video formats from SD all the way up to 8K DCI, 12‑bit RGB 4:4:4, plus it also handles advanced color spaces such as Rec. 2020 for deeper color and higher dynamic range. DeckLink 8K also handles a massive 64 channels of audio, stereoscopic 3D, high frame rates and more.

DeckLink 8K Pro will be available in early January for US$645 from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide.

In addition, Blackmagic Design has also announced a new low price of US$895 for DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G.

DeckLink 8K Pro will be demonstrated at InterBEE in Japan on the Blackmagic Design booth 8211.

DeckLink 8K Pro is the ultimate digital cinema capture and playback card. Featuring four quad link multi rate 12G‑SDI connections, DeckLink 8K Pro can work in all SD, HD, Ultra HD, 4K, 8K and 8K DCI formats and is compatible with all existing professional SDI equipment. The 12G‑SDI connections are also bi-directional so they can be used to either capture or playback quad link 8K, or for the simultaneous capture and playback of single or dual link SDI sources.

When it comes to quality, DeckLink 8K Pro is better than any other solution because it lets customers work with both more pixels than ever before and better pixels than ever before. The 8K images have 16 times more pixels than a regular 1080 HD image, which lets you reframe or scale shots with incredible fidelity and precision. DeckLink 8K Pro also works in 12‑bit RGB 4:4:4 as well as Rec. 2020, which is a massive color space designed for high dynamic range Ultra HD and digital cinema work in 4K and 8K.

The combination of higher resolution, a vastly larger color space and incredible dynamic range means that DeckLink 8K Pro delivers the sharpest and most vivid images customers have ever seen for editing, color and high end visual effects work.

DeckLink 8K Pro supports capture and playback of 8 or 10-bit YUV 4:2:2 video and 10 or 12‑bit RGB 4:4:4. Video can be captured as uncompressed or to industry standard broadcast quality ProRes and DNx files. DeckLink 8K Pro lets customers work at up to 60 frames per second in 8K and supports stereoscopic 3D for all modes up to 4K DCI at 60 frames per second in 12‑bit RGB.

The advanced broadcast technology in DeckLink 8K Pro is built into an easy to install 8 lane generation 3 PCI Express for Mac, Windows, and Linux workstations. Customers get support for all legacy SD and HD formats, along with Ultra HD, DCI 4K, 8K and DCI 8K, as well as Rec. 601, 709 and 2020 color.

DeckLink 8K Pro is designed to work seamlessly with the upcoming DaVinci Resolve 14.2 Studio for an incredibly seamless editing, color and audio post production workflow that lets you master full resolution high dynamic range projects in full 8K resolution. In addition, DeckLink 8K Pro also works with other professional applications such as Final Cut Pro X, Media Composer, Premiere Pro, After Effects, ProTools, Nuke and more. There’s even a free software development kit so customers and OEMs can build their own custom solutions.

“DeckLink 8K Pro is our most advanced PCIe capture and playback card ever,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “It’s exciting because the 8K images have so much clarity and detail that it’s as if you’re looking out a window. Whether it’s for the 2020 Olympics or the next generation of Hollywood blockbusters, DeckLink 8K Pro has the speed, quality and compatibility customers need to do their best work!”

Availability and Price

DeckLink 8K Pro will be available from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide for US$645 in early January. DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G is available now from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide for US$895.

The X299 looks like an awesome workstation. My X99 workstation has been great no issues at all but time for an upgrade. The Asus X299 has everything I want in a motherboard along with Thunderbolt 3. Hopefully I can run OSX High Sierra on this. OSX Sierra works great with my X99 workstation. I noticed on TonyMac that they are already running OSX High Sierra on an Asus motherboard so I am pretty sure it will work. I am having a very difficult time abandoning the OSX operating system as you can tell. I actually never boot into Windows unless I need to update firmware on my Godox flashes and Monolights so I guess Windows 10 Pro comes in handy for something... LOL

BenQ, internationally renowned provider of digital lifestyle devices, today launches the SW271, a 4K UHD 27” monitor offering industry-standard HDR10 support and advanced colour performance for photographers. Covering 99% of Adobe RGB, and 100% of both sRGB and Rec. 709, the SW271 delivers the ultimate colour accuracy of Delta E ≦ 2 performance with its 10-bit IPS panel and advanced 14-bit 3D lookup table (LUT).

“We are proud to present the SW271, which joins our full line of professional monitors purpose-engineered for photographers,” said Conway Lee, President of BenQ Corporation. “SW271 brings photo enthusiasts professional-grade performance, specialised tools and advanced calibration for colour-critical applications.”

To display individual colours across its broad colour gamut with perfect accuracy, the SW271 utilises an advanced 14-bit 3D LUT to achieve Delta E values of two or better. In addition, Technicolor ® Colour Certified has been installed to meet strict colour accuracy standards used in Hollywood and entertainment media, therefore the SW271’s 10-bit 27” IPS panel delivers authentic colours as envisioned by content creators.

BenQ’s SW271 clearly displays high-resolution images from sophisticated DSLRs and other HDR source devices. It also produces intense photographic realism and colour depth by expanding the dynamic range between true darkness and high brightness,

SW271’s colour characteristics can be customised via hardware calibration with X-Rite or Datacolor calibrators and BenQ Palette Master Element calibration software. Equipped with USB Type-C TM connectivity, the SW271 requires a single cable for calibration and video transmission.

Adobe RGB, sRGB , as well as Black and White modes can be switched instantly via SW271’s exclusive “Hotkey Puck”. In addition, standard-equipment detachable shading hood blocks ambient glare for professional work in both portrait and landscape orientations. GamutDuo Mode also enables simultaneous picture-by-picture operation in two different colour spaces, such as Adobe RGB and sRGB, or even in a black and white film effect.

SW271 is equipped with understated functionality with height adjustability, an SD card reader, USB 3.1 (Gen 1), USB Type-C TM , HDMI 2.0, and DisplayPort 1.4 ports.

HP today announced the HP Z8 G4, the most powerful workstation on the planet1 and security features that denote HP as having the world’s most secure and manageable desktop workstations2.

The reinvention of HP’s most powerful desktop PCs meets the compute power needs demanded by the world’s inventors of change, including product designers, architects, digital creators, scientists, educators, healthcare workers, financial traders and others. The HP Z8, Z6 and Z4 Desktop Workstations are equipped with extreme power, unprecedented security2and innovative design, future-proofed to support the fast growing fields of virtual reality, machine learning and advanced design.

IT managers in today’s world must make security a top priority. HP’s new powerhouse portfolio includes the industry’s most comprehensive set of security features2 including HP SureStart (the industry's first self-healing BIOS with intrusion detection), the HP Client Security Suite and more. With the highest security levels in the history of the HP Z Workstations business, this generation performs with extreme power and protects intellectual assets.

“The stakes for world-class security have never been higher or more important for workstations,” said Xavier Garcia, vice president and general manager, HP Z Workstations, HP Inc. “Workstation users create the most valuable IP for a company and HP is meeting the security needs with the world’s most secure and manageable desktop and mobile workstations. As the most powerful desktop workstation in the world, the HP Z8 Workstation can deliver the extreme power and the security demanded by our customers.”

HP’s New Desktop Workstations

Every inch of the new tower workstations was intentionally and thoughtfully re-designed to deliver superb power, style and the inspiration desired by the inventors of change. The ID was completely updated to incorporate advanced manufacturing techniques and materials, and represent the power of the machines, their users and the work that’s completed by creatives.

The new workstations incorporate Thunderbolt™ 3 (optional) and Dual 1GbE Ports (standard) to support the high bandwidth data transfer demanded by current and future users, as well as Microsoft Windows 76 support for legacy workflows. Each of them offers modular front IO with USB 3.1 G2 Type C™ ports. The Z8 and Z6 models each support up to dual CPUs, and an optional dual 10 GbE network module for high speed networking at half the cost of current HP Workstations, and without consuming a precious PCIe expansion slot.

HP Z8 G4 Workstation delivers top-of-the-line power to fuel those who reimagine the design of everything from race cars to rockets. As the most powerful desktop workstation on the planet1, the HP Z8 Workstation has the capability to run the most complex simulations and process massive amounts of data. Users can run 3D simulations and edit 8K video in real time with up to 56 processing cores and up to 3 TB of main memory, 3x the capacity of its predecessor4. 10nm (even with usual tricks of shrinking only some elements) require huge investment, and it seems that problems also rise exponentially and performance increase stopped.

What models are best?

  • Present year line is MU, last year line is KU.
  • For sRGB you need to focus on 6000 and 7000 lines, they can be adjusted to almost perfectly match SRGB (99% according to measurements)
  • All models use good VA panels.

Models from cheapens to more expensive for now

LG takes an unorthodox approach to how it handles the white subpixels in its 6100-, 6500-, and 6800-series TVs. Instead of adding white subpixels to the RGB subpixel arrays, as it does with its OLED models, it replaces every fourth red, green, or blue subpixel with a white one. So three out of every four whole pixels are missing colors.

Edit Monitor Suggestions http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17184/edit-monitor-suggestions- Mon, 19 Jun 2017 06:48:51 +0000 club_irate 17184@/talks/discussions I am from Mumbai, India and the monitor rates are quite high compared to the western countries. I am looking at suggestions for the best monitor to go for.

Posting 3 monitors which seemed interesting but if there are any better Monitor recommendations for Video editing on premiere pro under 350$ ideally available in India, they are more than welcome. Just that i am not looking at FULL HD Resolution, 2k and upwards is ideal.

. I will use my Lenovo y510 to output via HDMI to the monitor. Its HDMI 1.4b port can handle 2.5k res. (http://www.amazon.in/Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y510p-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B01MSEDDXN?tag=googinhydr18418-21&tag=googinkenshoo-21&ascsubtag=354746d0-480b-418a-97ec-4111664e96c6)

I use a GH5 & GH4 camera with external 10 bit recorder but always give final output to 2K. I am not keen on going 4K as i dont have the budget and i am pretty happy with UHD & being under 30 inches but above 25 inches and above.

Intel 300-series chipsets and cartel agreements http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/17161/intel-300-series-chipsets-and-cartel-agreements Fri, 16 Jun 2017 06:12:35 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 17161@/talks/discussions

Intel's upcoming Z370 chipsets, for its Coffee Lake-based processors which are schedule to start rolling out in August, will not feature integrated Wi-Fi and USB 3.1. Intel originally planned to release the Coffee Lake platform in 2018 with the 300-series chipsets to feature Wi-Fi (802.11ac R2 and Bluetooth 5.0) and USB 3.1 Gen2.

Sounds like bullshit. Actually Intel intentionally protect some manufacturers of USB and other controllers. Motherboard vendors also very much like such approach as it allows to offer premium models with such features and get bigger margins. This story was same with USB 3.0.

However, other 300-series chipsets including the Z390 and H370, planned for early 2018, will support Wi-Fi and USB 3.1 Gen2.

So, Z370 is planned to be ala P67. Get some premium cut from early adapters while selling them actually almost same Z170 chipset for third time.
