Any Hack for HDC-SDT750 Camcorder http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/7125/any-hack-for-hdc-sdt750-camcorder Fri, 31 May 2013 20:04:38 +0000 pinno 7125@/talks/discussions hi there, i have 2x HDC-SDT750 Camcorders and need to know if there has ever been a hack made to increase the Video Bitrate out from 28Mbps to say 70Mbps.

asking because my son has a GH2 M4/3 camera using the v4b Orion and Sanity 5.1 hacks and i would like to improve my SDT750.

i have pre-ordered a BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera here in australia due for release in july/august, with a SLR Magic 12mm Wide lens, so if no hack is available for my camcorders i will use the BMPC Camera as my main unit as it shoots ProRes @ 220Mbps without any hacking.

i was going to get a GH3 that shoots native @ 72Mbps (i believe) and i prefer using a camera that i dont need to hack.

any help or info is appreciated.....pinno

Panasonic GH3 vs Sony FS100 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6976/panasonic-gh3-vs-sony-fs100 Wed, 15 May 2013 22:44:35 +0000 chasehagen 6976@/talks/discussions Wondering if anyone has any experience or videos/comparisons between the old low light king, FS100 and our new-ish Panny flagship the GH3? Haven't had a chance to try both out side by side for a test or comparison but I figure someone must have. I would assume the FS100 would still have the edge in lowlight performance (i.e. grain/noise) but what about other aspects like actual resolution tests/comparisons (lines resolved), Dynamic Range, Rolling Shutter, Moire, Slow-Mo, Codec, Grading Capability. I would assume the GH3's 50Mbps would be far superior in color grading latitude and for Green screen compositing than the 24Mbps AVCHD of the Sony? Just be interesting to see if anyone's done any tests or have some insights between the two cameras as I cant seem to fin any online anywhere (all GH2 vs FS100). I've got a GH3 (and a GH2) just curious if the Sony's worth the extra few $K if you don't need XLR and Super 35mm DOF and extreme low light performance. Grateful for anyone who could share some insight on their observed differences between these two great cams! Thanks!

NOVO, modified GoPro with C-mount lenses http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6359/novo-modified-gopro-with-c-mount-lenses Fri, 08 Mar 2013 00:05:12 +0000 jleo 6359@/talks/discussions The Novo, developed and engineered by View Factor Studios in collaboration with Radiant Images, is a re-housed GoPro Hero3 that is even smaller in size and much more flexible and robust for cinematic purposes.

Key new enhancements include a C-mount lens system with back focus adjustment, which allows for extreme macro shooting. In addition, the Novo offers exposure control capabilities that open up a wide-range of artistic possibilities for cinematographers and camera operators. An internal CPU interfaced to the camera permits users to disable the auto exposure feature and then adjust the aperture manually via the lens. This feature gives a cinematographer the control to set a desired exposure and stops.

The lightweight aluminum housing itself is 20% thinner than the GoPro Hero3 and includes three 1/4-20 and two 10-32 mounting points. Also, four buttons on the front (REC, PWR, WiFi & AUX) are assignable to several functions depending on the application. The Aux button turns the auto exposure on/off, but in the near future will also be utilized for other functions, such as digital zoom, a tool to check critical focus.

And the Novo offers these added features while retaining the key functionality and accessories of the GoPro Hero3, such as the LCD touch screen, power backpack and WiFi connectivity for wireless camera control.

The Novo addresses the needs of cinematographers without compromising the power and versatility of the most advanced GoPro ever.

Like the GoPro Hero3: Black Edition, the Novo is capable of capturing cinema-quality video at 2X the resolution and 2X the frame-rate of previous models while delivering 2X better low light performance – 1440p 48fps, 1080p 60 fps and 720p 120 fps video and 12MP photos at a rate of 30 photos per second, plus the ultra-high resolution 2.7KP-30 fps and 4KP-15 fps video modes.

Lumix LX7 - Possible hacking? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6322/lumix-lx7-possible-hacking Mon, 04 Mar 2013 14:13:45 +0000 Daniel_R 6322@/talks/discussions Hey guys;

I read on here a few days ago of a rumour that the LX7 will be in line for a possible "hack". If this is true, that'll be great... as I'm looking for something small and compact that will shoot great video along side my GH2, GH1 and maybe a GoPro. I need to replace my aging Canon HV30's... and this camera looks to be a good price/quality.

So, I guess my question is this... If the LX7 cops a hack, what can we expect? Possible 24p/25p framerates? Upped bitrate? I'm just finding it hard to see where the hack could improve this camera... unless I'm missing something.

I very often fly to a location to do pr events, store tours, impromptu interviews, etc. I pack 2 GH3s with lenses audio, supports and light in a pelican case that is within airline carry on specs. Still, occasionally the case is taken away from me if there is no more room. I am looking for a recommendation on a 3rd camera that is compact and self contained that I can stick in my smaller carry on with a mic and small monopod That will allow me to complete my assignment in some minimal way should my primary kit not arrive. I was considering the FZ200 and some of the camcorders but would appreciate hearing from anyone with some experience in the matter. Thanks

Cheap camcorder with manual mode http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5202/cheap-camcorder-with-manual-mode Wed, 14 Nov 2012 22:45:47 +0000 acuriousman 5202@/talks/discussions My GH2 doesn't have the fast autofocus my old camcorder does.

Strange, because every review said it had incredibly fast AF. :(

Anyhow, I'd like to get a new camcorder. One with really fast autofocus and maybe manual aperture control. Every time I do a close up with my Sony Bloggie, the background gets EXTREMELY overexposed/washed out. Especially if it's a white background.

What would be an upgrade for $500 or less?

Vlogging Camera: Recommendations needed! http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/5180/vlogging-camera-recommendations-needed Mon, 12 Nov 2012 21:18:11 +0000 Oedipax 5180@/talks/discussions Hey guys, I need to find a camera that writers (read: non-camera fanatics like ourselves) for a website can use for shooting their own daily vlogs.

Key considerations are as follows:

  1. Ease of use for non-technical people
  2. Video quality (1080p and good autofocus/autoiris)
  3. Audio quality (they won't be using separate mics)
  4. Recording format compatibility

We have some webcams we've been using, but the included software records into Windows Media format and is only 720p anyway. Having to transcode from WMV into something we can edit is a huge workflow pain. Ideally it could at least spit out an H.264 that could be edited natively in Premiere. Bonus points if it can also work in FCP7 since that's still mostly what people edit on at my workplace, although I'm pushing to adopt Premiere.

Is there anything out there like this? Something like the GoPro would be good if the wide angle were not so extreme (even the smaller FOV settings seem a bit extreme to me).

Finding a model that records on SD Card, comes with manual focus ring, mic in- and headphone output and allows in general proper manual settings below 700 EUR seems to be quite hard. Does not be the very best picture quality, manual controls are more important. Any ideas?
