Lytro Illum, 1" sensor, 30mm-250mm F2.0 zoom http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10221/lytro-illum-1-sensor-30mm-250mm-f2.0-zoom Tue, 22 Apr 2014 06:58:03 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 10221@/talks/discussions image

Mountain View, Calif. – (April 22, 2014) – Lytro, Inc. revealed today its powerful vision for the future of photography with the unveiling of LYTRO ILLUM, a light field camera and software platform designed to redefine the way we portray the world around us. Built to harness the full power of the light field, the professional-grade LYTRO ILLUM will give photographers a new medium capable of capturing visual experiences in their purest form — not as a static cross-section of reality but an authentic, interactive window into their world.

The camera paves the way for an immersive brand of storytelling in which images can be brought to life in multiple dimensions through Light Field Photography — a transformative new category that empowers artistic creation and expression beyond what is possible in the 2D world of digital and film. In capturing the color, intensity and direction of every light ray flowing into the camera, LYTRO ILLUM provides a massive amount of visual information that allows photographers to recreate sights and scenes on a truly experiential canvas.

"With LYTRO ILLUM, creative pioneers — ranging from artistic amateurs to experienced professionals — will tap into a new wave of graphical storytelling. Now artist and audience alike can share an equally intimate connection with the imagery, and, in a sense, jointly participate in the magic of its creation," said Lytro CEO Jason Rosenthal. "By combining a novel hardware array with tremendous computational horsepower, this camera opens up unprecedented possibilities to push the boundaries of creativity beyond the limits inherent in digital or film photography."

To enable such rich, layered compositions, LYTRO ILLUM delivers unparalleled optical versatility by merging custom-built hardware with a powerful software platform. The camera offers a 40-megaray light field sensor, 8x optical zoom range, constant f/2.0 aperture and a high-speed shutter capable of freezing motion under a wide variety of conditions. After image capture, the innovative software platform empowers photographers to adjust aspects of images that were previously fixed, such as focus, tilt, perspective shift and depth of field, which allows the photographer to create images that will resonate for the viewer not just in one dimension, but in every dimension.

"My photography style pushes me to look for ways to tell a more compelling story with every image. LYTRO ILLUM gave me that ability by incorporating an interactive element that captures different visual touch points at every depth," said Kyle Thompson, a Chicago-based photographer known for his surreal conceptual style and one of the early users of the camera. "With LYTRO ILLUM, I've been able to make a multi-dimensional image with more perspectives to explore."

LYTRO ILLUM's totally unique photographic experience reflects the technological revolution around virtual reality and 3D graphics as powerful new storytelling formats in the Digital Age. In the hands of creative pioneers, the camera is a catalyst for a transformational shift in which the world will increasingly look for opportunities to craft a more immersive artistic experience.

"Light Field Photography is following the classic pattern for a transformational concept," said Lytro founder Dr. Ren Ng. "The original Lytro camera, which launched in 2012, introduced an entirely new era in photography. LYTRO ILLUM will advance this movement to a new level. We are very excited by the potential of this camera to ignite a photography revolution on the magnitude of the transformation from film to digital."

In addition to enabling post-capture image adjustments, LYTRO ILLUM's proprietary software platform enables users to view images in 3D, build custom animations, export images into common formats like JPEG and share to the Web or mobile devices. LYTRO ILLUM's workflow is also compatible with existing photo-editing suites like Adobe's Photoshop and Lightroom software and Apple's Aperture software, allowing creative pioneers to use the tools they already know and love.

LYTRO ILLUM Availability

The LYTRO ILLUM camera will ship starting July 2014 for a retail price of $1,599.

As part of the launch, Lytro is offering a variety of exclusive opportunities to those who pre-order the camera before July 15. In addition to receiving a specially- engraved LYTRO ILLUM for a special introductory price of $1,499 and an extended two-year warranty, they'll be eligible to join an inner circle of Lytro users with insider access to product development insight and support. Even after the product ships, this nucleus of early adopters will continue to receive ground-floor insight and training from the Lytro team, with opportunities to contribute to exclusive developmental projects.

As part of their status as early adopters, individuals who pre-order will have the opportunity to submit their own photo series to earn a spot in the Ultimate Lytro Photo Experience — a once-in-a-lifetime trip to shoot alongside a prominent photographer on an all-expense paid photo shoot. The Lytro team and this pro photographer partner will be on hand to provide high-caliber, hands-on training and practice for getting the most out of LYTRO ILLUM. As the larger photography community gets acquainted with this new style of digital art, these early adopters will have an inside edge on techniques for producing cutting-edge Light Field Photography.

This is why I love capitalists. You just get average Chinese phone, leave all same camera and lens, just add cool looking lens like plastic, add fake leather like look, and here you go. Your price can be now more than double from source phone, and your margin is around 8x from source.

4K HD at 15fps and 2.7K at 30fps is AWESOME for $399.99, and actually outdoes the BMCC resolution in a matchbox.

4K HD at 15fps; 2.7K at 30fps, 25, 24fps; 1440p at 48fps; 1080p at 60fps

Looks like we are in for some awesome footage coming soon! GoPro Cinema 4K is coming pretty fast, just need a few more frames and a little more time!

If Vitaliy manages to hack this baby for the few extra frames, BIG BUCKS! Lovely how GoPro manages to have a small partly useable 4K mode, while the GH3 skips it entirely...

Sony Electronics, a worldwide leader in digital imaging, has today introduced the latest addition to its acclaimed Action Cam POV camera lineup, the HDR-AS50 model.

The new camera brings the benefits of Sony's latest and most innovative video technologies to more customers than ever before, including SteadyShot™ image stabilization, smooth zoom and field angle adjustability, high-bitrate XAVC S™ video recording4 and 4K Time-lapse capture. There is also a new, smaller, lighter Live-View Remote that acts as a perfect complement to the new Action Cam. It is offered together with the camera in a kit, model HDR-AS50R.

The new action camera features an 11.1 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor paired with a ZEISS® Tessar lens and utilizes SteadyShot image stabilization to keep footage steady and smooth when shooting everything from motocross stunts to aerial landscapes. The stabilization system is also specially tailored to reduce low amplitude vibration typically caused by radio-controlled helicopters or drones.

New to the HDR-AS50, users can now adjust the field angle of a shot with "wide"1 and "narrow" options available to help ensure the scene is captured properly based on the environment. The new camera also features an enhanced 3x smooth zoom, allowing shooters to get even closer to the action during movie recording.

Based on extensive feedback from athletes, filmmakers and more casual users, the HDR-AS50 offers an enhanced interface with larger, more intuitive icon and button operability. Additionally, the new Live-View Remote2 acts as an extension of the camera, with the ability to fully control its capabilities including start/stop recording, power on/off and more. Thanks to its versatile design, the remote can also be attached to various accessories such as Shooting Grip (model VCT-STG1) and Handlebar Mount (model VCT-HM2) using supplied mount adaptor, or worn as a wristband using supplied strap. As with select Action Cam models, users can also control the AS50 with their smartphones and tablets3 through use of the PlayMemories Mobile application. The new camera also has adjustable beep sounds as well as three tally lights on the top, front and back to allow greater awareness of recording settings in bright or noisy environments.

The HDR-AS50 model is compatible with the high bitrate XAVC S format4, allowing it to capture all scenes with impressive detail and resolution, and has a Time-lapse Capture feature that shoots still images in pre-set intervals. The images can then be turned into a stunning 4K time-lapse movie utilizing the Action Cam Movie Creator software. 5 The Action Cam App can also create Time-lapse movies in Full HD6.

Additionally, Sony's own in-built movie creator - Highlight Movie Maker - is available in the AS50 model. The innovative feature, which now utilizes face detection technology, automatically assembles a video highlight package that can be viewed, paired with custom music.

The HDR-AS50 comes with a large range of accessories including a supplied Underwater Housing MPK-UWH1 that is certified down to 197 ft. / 60m in depth. An optional Cap Clip accessory (AKA-CAP1) is a perfect fit to any casual uses from travel to fishing.

X920 adds level gauge, Level Shot function and built-in WiFi. The high-end body also is capable of plug and copy HDD recording, has a 1,152k-dot touch-enabled 3.5-inch LCD, and a 25x optical zoom lens with tilt and blur correction. In other words, otherwise it is X900.

An 263,424-dot equivalent EVF is complete crap, as usual, it is not updated for last 7 years, I think.

image

The HC-V720 is lower in the lineup, offers exactly SAME 21 optical zoom lens as V700 (just added number in digital zoom) added built-in WiFi, 20.4-megapixel faked still picture capture, and an old 3-inch touchscreen LCD. The V720 also allows for plug and copy HDD recording and also adds near-field communication for easy control utilizing a smartphone. And yes, 1/2.33" sensor spec is used for marketing and active stabilizer with only small central portion used for actual image.

360fly Announces Availability of New 360fly 4K Camera

Immersive 4K Video Camera Featuring Live Mobile Streaming Now

360fly, Inc. has announced the launch of its new 360fly 4K camera. Unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year, the 360fly 4K camera boasts a higher resolution than its predecessor, intuitive filming and editing advancements and live mobile streaming capabilities via LIVIT mobile app.

360fly 4K adds a powerful new image sensor that quadruples the resolution of the first generation 360fly camera, producing 2880x2880, 360-degree 4K video. Additionally, the 360fly4K camera will offer the following upgraded and advanced features:

LIVIT Live Streaming: In partnership with LIVIT, 360fly allows users to live stream their 360 content across the LIVIT mobile app – so your friends and family can see all the action in real time. No editing or uploading required.

  • Front-Facing Mode: Not all situations require a 360-degree field of view. During those times, the 360fly 4K camera will allow users to record in a 16:9 aspect ratio at 2560x1440 resolution with a field of view of 178x100 degrees (204 diagonal).
  • Time-Lapse Video Mode: Tell a story in a dramatic fashion by capturing a 360-degreetime-lapse video. Users can select .5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60-second shutter intervals.
  • Motion and Audio Detection Mode: The 360fly 4K camera will automatically begin to record videos and photos based off any movement or sounds. This feature is great in surveillance or monitoring situations.
  • Accelerometer Activated Record Mode: Not all environments are smartphone friendly, and in those situations 360fly 4K camera users can activate record mode upon a significant accelerometer triggered event. For example, when users at the top of a ski slop start their run down the mountain, the camera will detect the acceleration and automatically begin to record.
  • Telemetry: The 360fly 4K camera features a built-in GPS sensor to tag locations, an altimeter and accelerometer – all powered by an advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Users can track altitude, speed and use third-party applications to overlay the data into their existing 360-degree video content.
  • Expanded Internal Memory: The 360fly 4K camera boasts 64G of internal memory.

With increased storage, there’s no need to pause your adventures to off load video.

OnePush Button Color-Coding: For clearer visibility and mode recognition, the 360fly 4Kcamera features an enhanced design with additional color-coded lighting around the OnePush button and bottom of the mounting dock.

The 360fly 4K camera offers two options for live streaming – a mobile option via LIVIT and a web cam mode for Facetime, Skype and other applications. For this, 360fly 4K pairs with its USB 2.0 charging base and is able to output a real-time full 360-degree HD video stream – providing a truly differentiated live viewing experience. The 360fly 4K camera is waterproof down to 30 feet and has a battery life of up to an hour and a half. Like the original, the 360fly 4K camera comes standard with Bluetooth, built-in Wi-Fi, and is compatible with a free Android and iOS mobile app that allows users to share content to popular social platforms like Facebook, YouTube and more.

I'm thinking to get this just to dabble in making a few 360 degree videos, perhaps a short film or two, and then move on up to multiple array GoPro capture rig once I'm confident in it.

I could't find any topic about it, so I thought to open one. My first impressions are that image quality is great, sound is good, but there are not many choices in recording formats. You only get 4k at 30p - only wide mode, 1080 @ 30p or 60p, and 720 @ 30/60/120p. Wide angle (204°) is a bit too wide for me, and I wish I could get 25p and 50p in some future firmware update.

Some previews

GoPro, Inc. (NASDAQ:GPRO), enabler of some of today’s most engaging content, is proud to announce HERO4 Session, the smallest, lightest, most convenient GoPro yet. 50% smaller and 40% lighter than GoPro’s best-selling HERO4 Black and Silver cameras, HERO4 Session packs GoPro’s Emmy® Award-winning image quality and performance into an exciting new low-profile form factor. HERO4 Session benefits from a durable waterproof design that eliminates the need for a separate housing and features simple one-button control to make capturing immersive photos and video quicker and more convenient than ever before. HERO4 Session is compatible with existing GoPro mounts and will retail for $399.99 MSRP at authorized GoPro retailers around the world and on GoPro.com beginning July 12, 2015.

“With HERO4 Session, we challenged ourselves to produce the smallest, lightest, most convenient GoPro possible,” said Nicholas Woodman, GoPro founder and CEO. “HERO4 Session combines the best of our engineering and user-experience know-how to deliver our most convenient life-capture solution, yet.” Woodman adds, “I’m so excited about the launch of HERO4 Session because now I can finally use mine in public!”

HERO4 Session captures GoPro-quality 1080p60, 720p100 and 1440p30 video along with eight megapixel photos in Single, Burst and Time Lapse modes. It features many of the same innovative features found in GoPro’s best-selling HERO4 Black and Silver cameras, including SuperView™, Protune and Auto Low Light recording modes. An expanded set of controls and settings can be accessed when using the GoPro App or Smart Remote.

Operating HERO4 Session is very simple. A short press of the shutter button quickly powers the camera on and video recording begins automatically. A long press of the shutter button powers the camera on and triggers Time Lapse photo capture. Press the shutter button again to save video or photo content and power the camera off. This simple one button design drastically improves the speed and convenience of capturing life moments as they happen.

HERO4 Session is built to GoPro’s famous rugged standards and is waterproof to 33 feet (10 meters). It features a sleek frame mounting system that is compatible with GoPro’s expansive array of mounts. An innovative dual microphone system dynamically switches sound recording between microphones to reduce wind noise during activities. Audio performance during water-based activities has been dramatically improved thanks to HERO4 Session’s waterproof design that eliminates the need for a separate waterhousing, which can often muffle sounds.

“At GoPro, sound quality is as important as image quality and we’re very excited about the stunning audio advancements we’ve made with HERO4 Session during water-based and windy activities. It’s incredible what this little GoPro can capture,” remarked Woodman.

Sony DSC-HX90V and DSC-WX500 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12837/sony-dsc-hx90v-and-dsc-wx500 Mon, 20 Apr 2015 03:24:46 +0000 Vitaliy_Kiselev 12837@/talks/discussions

Sony introduced a pair of the world's smallest 30x optical zoom cameras, the new HX90V and WX500 models.1

The new compact cameras boast a variety of impressive imaging credentials including high-resolution 18.2 MP2 Exmor R CMOS Sensors, 30x optical zoom ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lenses, powerful BIONZ X processors and Optical SteadyShot® stabilization, making them the ultimate companion for any travel photographer or casual weekend shooter.

The new HX90V model features the same type of high-quality retractable OLED Tru-Finder found on the acclaimed RX100 III model, making it the first truly 'pocketable' compact high-zoom camera with a built-in electronic viewfinder. It also includes a variety of adjustable dials and functions including a customizable control ring, and has GPS functionality for automatically tagging photos and videos3.

Each of the new cameras also features high-resolution, 921k dot LCD screen that tilts a full 180 degrees for comfortable arms-length portraits or "selfies" and is Wi-Fi / NFC compatible.

"These two new models serve as great examples of how Sony is driving innovation throughout all aspects of the imaging business," said Neal Manowitz, director of the still imaging business at Sony. "With these new cameras, we've taken some of the most unique, advanced imaging technologies from our RX and α cameras and leveraged our unique 'miniaturization' ability to deliver a high-zoom shooting experience unlike anything else in the compact camera market today."

Panasonic LX100 firmware issues http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11690/panasonic-lx100-firmware-issues Sun, 02 Nov 2014 08:08:07 +0000 karl 11690@/talks/discussions I thought it would be the right time to open a thread dedicated to firmware issues found in the LX100.

One issue I found in firmware version 1.0:

When you use "Utilize Custom Set" (e.g. C1) to recall a setting, then change some settings, then want to recall the stored C1 custom setting again, you'll find that using "Utilize Custom Set" has no effect. Only if you first choose a different setting (like C2) and then C1 again, the C1 setting are actually restored.

This is slightly annoying to me, as I make frequent use of custom sets, but also often divert from the stored settings and go back.

Professional Camcorder for Indie film http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/13588/professional-camcorder-for-indie-film Fri, 21 Aug 2015 03:44:31 +0000 club_irate 13588@/talks/discussions I am planning an indie film and would like to have a 'DV look' type feel to it (example: Festen, Norikos dinner table, Visitor Q etc.) But i would like to go for something which uses a SD Card and not DV tapes yet gives a DV type look and feel and has the 24p option and atleast FULL HD if not higher. Really liked the look of Panasonic DVX 100B but thats a Dv tape cam too.

Alternatively, is there any other way to achieve that look via some plugin? I own a panasonic Gh4.

Thanks!
