My primary occupation is a director/editor at a news tv station in Malta,Europe but I started venturing in documentaries and productions as a side job for more than a year, at first I was eying the GH2. The footage I saw amazed me, but than moved to canon , for more practical options basically, I can't rely solely on hacked hardware. At first I was going to get a 600d but ended up getting a 60d, now I need another camera the third camera and was very interested in getting the 5D Mark II , but then the Mark III emerged!

The many blogs I've been following, practically I browse trough all! Are saying something about the sharpness on the latest 5D, I wish to ask what does this mean is the footage to soft? , lacking detail or it's just a question of lack of detail in a pixel contest, by that I Mean it's at magnification that one can notice this lack of sharpness or it's all over the image!

Also any idea about what starter lenses should I consider, what about primes does old glass resolve in better quality, or stick to modern primes, also what's a good starter light kit for a starter budget.

Maybe if you get chance, I get some feedback

BBC approved cameras list http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2296/bbc-approved-cameras-list Thu, 16 Feb 2012 12:12:14 +0000 GOODEMPIRE 2296@/talks/discussions I spent a day on location with a crew shooting with 7D. I found 7D very inconvenient and weak if compared to the hacked GH2 in almost every respect. But the sad fact is that 7D is on the BBC's list of approved camcorders (although partially), while the GH2 is not. I understand that nothing could be done about it, but just out of pure curiosity — is there any scientific way to distinguish a GH2 shot from the one by 7D at the end of the production cycle?

Monitor override's my original "REC MODE" http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2007/monitor-overrides-my-original-rec-mode- Fri, 13 Jan 2012 23:15:44 +0000 jayfilms 2007@/talks/discussions I'm having issues with both monitors the same problem happens with each one, Marshall and Zacuto EVF. The problem starts when I plug into the mini HDMI port on my GH2 the camera switches "rec mode" to 1920-1080p 29.97 (FSH), even though before the mini HDMI cable was inserted my "rec mode" was 720 60p 59.94 (SH), also I can't access my "rec mode" file on my camera well the external monitor is plugged in. Once I disconnect the cable the camera goes back to 720 60p mode, were it should have been all along. Anyone else having this problem?

August 24, new generation Sony and Nikon cameras http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/600/august-24-new-generation-sony-and-nikon-cameras Fri, 05 Aug 2011 13:48:40 +0000 danyyyel 600@/talks/discussions
The Second announcement is from Nikon (Nikonrumors). What started as a new line of camera to replace the d300 and d3, has now change to two full frame cameras. A d800 and D4 to replace the d700 and D3. Details are a bit more sketchy here. It is more of a 18megapixel $ 5000 D4 (low light, sport pg camera) and a $ 2500 24megapixel D800. On the video side, some are speculating of very strong video performance. As a Nikon professional photographer, I have been repeatably disappointed by Nikon, they are the still company that have everything to gain to put some ground breaking technology to take market share in the large sensor camera. The dslr revolution has brought a total new market that they could not have dreamed before. For now the market is not mature and people can change brand very rapidly. I hope that this time they will not miss the boat. Either one of these would be a basic minimum for me. A 10bit 422 high bitrate codec (or/and) An uncompressed 10bit 422 hdmi output that can be recorded by external recorders (or/and) At least a limited (time/buffer) HD raw output.

HDSLRs that produce clean HDMI with audio? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/650/hdslrs-that-produce-clean-hdmi-with-audio Fri, 12 Aug 2011 07:53:13 +0000 sdbest 650@/talks/discussions shutter operation on still camera vs video camera http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/249/shutter-operation-on-still-camera-vs-video-camera Sat, 18 Jun 2011 22:28:49 +0000 donf 249@/talks/discussions However, in video mode no noise is made so I have to assume that some kind electronic exposure scheme is operating? Is there a reason that the electronic shutter mechanism is not used in still mode? I am guessing that to get the pixel densities for still mode a mechanical shutter is still required but for movies at lower res and lower shutter speeds it is not required?
