Flycam Nano replacement parts http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/11922/flycam-nano-replacement-parts Mon, 08 Dec 2014 18:53:21 +0000 Bara 11922@/talks/discussions Hi my friends,

I got a flycam nano from a friend of mine, unfortunately one part is broken. It's the part where you can arrange the distance from the camera to the weights. You can see the part in the picture below. Is there any possibility to get replacement parts for a fly cam nano? Unfortunately I do not know the exact brand or company where my friend bought it, and neither he has any clue. The problem with my current one is that the hole is too big and the screw does not have any grib, so you can not tighten the screw. I've already thought about drilling the hole bigger and to use a bigger screw, but then the wings of the screw would be in the way.

I would really appreciate any suggestions!

Radian: Motion Timelapse Device http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/6819/radian-motion-timelapse-device Fri, 26 Apr 2013 16:31:59 +0000 andrevanberlo 6819@/talks/discussions I came across the Radian on google searching for an automatic panning device and stumbled upon their kickstarter. Their project is fully funded now and they are shipping the devices as we speak. Looks good, it says it is not meant for video panning, not meant for, but might work? Couldn't find anything about Radian on this site so figured someone might wanna have a closer look at this so i posted it...

http://radian.alpinelaboratories.com/pages/radian

This comes from their website

Radian is a remarkably powerful, yet wonderfully simple smartphone-controlled device that lets you take stunning panning and tilting time-lapses with your dSLR camera or smartphone (in conjunction with another time-lapse app). With our free iOS/Android/web app, simply upload the desired time-lapse settings to Radian, unplug, and let Radian do the rest.

From time-lapses of sweeping landscapes to stormy clouds to busy street corners, the possibilities are limitless. In fact, the usefulness of time-lapses, especially panning ones, go beyond just creative endeavors. Its uses extend from architectural/construction site surveying, to documentation of projects, to even anthropological studies in urban environments. With panning, you can now capture the entire scene around you.

Radian is small, rugged, weather-resistant, and can handle anything you throw at it. It can rotate side-to-side. It can tilt up and down (with optional L-bracket). It can dynamically speed up and slow down. And if you have a Canon dSLR, you can change exposure to capture sunrise and sunset. You name it. With our app, the sky is the limit.

*Note: Radian is not meant for video panning

Cable/Wire mounted cameras - experiences? http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/2366/cablewire-mounted-cameras-experiences Wed, 22 Feb 2012 08:48:35 +0000 RRRR 2366@/talks/discussions Glory to those who master octacopters e.t.c. but have any of you guys tried any wire / cable mounts to get long / high camera movement? (and I'm not talking broadcast wire cams)

In my mind it seems like such a solution could be useful if well thought out, but it would have to be relatively easy to set up and the actual mount / wagon would need to be well designed (not not get undesired movement and to have some control of the framing).

I've found some attempts at creating such solutions whilst googling but it would be nicer to hear of actual experiences, if you have any?

The SkyHook Mini is a camera positioning robot that allows the filmmaker complete aerial control for lighter high definition cameras.

CandyCam, LLC, creates and sells affordable multimedia robotics to filmmakers and indoor venues for unprecedented control for recording live-action events and scripted video sequences. Two years ago, the team at CandyCam set out to free your camera from its positional limitations. While we were developing the SkyHook for professionals, we were asked to develop a portable, cost-reduced unit for cameras under 18 ounces; the SkyHook Mini is that product.

DJI S900 Hexacopter Announced http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10941/dji-s900-hexacopter-announced Fri, 01 Aug 2014 09:31:03 +0000 bannedindv 10941@/talks/discussions The DJI S900 Hexacopter offers a new level of forward thinking design, proven flight controls and reliability. It uses standardized motors, propellers and speed controls. It also supports some of the best camera specific gimbals on the market - DJI zenmuse series.

The Only apparent downside right now with a platform like this is that the gimbals are camera specific, however it will accept third party gimbals that may require more tuning to get running smoothely.

You can get one at http://store.dji.com/product/spreading-wings-s900-a2-zenmuse-z15-gh4-hd

As I see it, this is an advancement on UAV design in terms of a stable platform that still features some modularity (when compared to hobby grade UAVs)

Varavon slider/motorroid damage http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/10575/varavon-slidermotorroid-damage Tue, 10 Jun 2014 07:01:09 +0000 mrbill 10575@/talks/discussions I've been using the Varavon Slider 'S' 2000cm slider with the Motorroid motor for some while now with excellent results. The two motorroid parts - one end is a couple of belt guides, and at the other is the 12v motor - are fixed to the slider ends with single 3/8'' tripod screws. Sadly, the end where the motor attaches took a bang on my last shoot, and the tripod screw was ripped out of the slider, stripping the threads, and meaning that I now can't attach the motor as the tripod screw has only damaged threads to screw into, and can't get a purchase.

I'm going to contact the manufacturer in hope of a replacement part - the threaded hole is part of a small separate section that attaches to the end of the slider, and is also where the slider feet attach. If Varavon can't help me though, I have to look at alternative options. If a long shank 3/8'' screw was available, that might do the trick, as the original didn't penetrate that far into the hole, and I'm pretty sure that below the original tripod screw depth, the threads should still be pretty good. Can't seem to find any in the UK though. As an alternative, any suggestions as how to repair the damaged thread hole on the slider? I know there are things like Helicoids which strengthen threaded holes but haven't tried to fit anything like that before (as you can probably tell, I don't have a workshop or that many tools). Any and all suggestions very welcome, and thanks in advance.

Price: $138 including shipping.

Big advantage is good adjustable camera base.

Disadvantage is that many factories made such stabilizers. Some of them have constant issues with gymbals and overall quality.

Camera stabilizer comparison http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9967/camera-stabilizer-comparison Wed, 26 Mar 2014 03:53:56 +0000 rockfall 9967@/talks/discussions Hi,

I'm trying to decide between theses 2 stabilizers.

This one

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-5kg-Mini-Handheld-Stabilizer-60cm-for-Steadicam-DSLR-DV-Camcorder-Video-Camera-/141133741722?pt=UK_Tripods_Heads_Stablisers&hash=item20dc39fe9a

and this one

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-10KG-LAING-Carbon-Fibre-Handheld-Steadicam-Stabilizer-P-04-DSLR-Camera-DVs-NEW-/141125133737?pt=UK_Tripods_Heads_Stablisers&hash=item20dbb6a5a9

There's quite a big difference in price, the Laing P-04 would be around £210 once imported. They both look pretty similar but I don't think the cheaper one has the fine adjustment system on the mounting platform, is that really worth an extra £100+?

I will be using the BMPCC in the viewfactor cage so it's not a super heavy camera.

Has anyone here used either of them?

Cheers

Tony

Supamods http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/9953/supamods Mon, 24 Mar 2014 07:37:45 +0000 UnTalGalvis 9953@/talks/discussions Hello, guys.

While going around the internet I stumbled upon this Chinese company called Supamods. https://www.supamods.com And, among all their products, this Steadicam set-up really caught my eye: https://www.supamods.com/product/x4-flight-system/

I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on it, but I can't seem to find any reviews of any of their products. The only products that get mention on YouTube, are a Mattebox and a replacement mount for the GoPro Hero.

Has anyone had any experience with these guys? How are their products? I know you get what you pay for (I mean, that Steadicam kit with vest, arm, gymbal and carrying case, is dirt cheap), but I wouldn't want to purchase a 750 dollar trash bag.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
