Bright Tangerine – a company that is mostly known for its high-end matte boxes/follow-focuses/titan arm – just announced a new complementary accessory to their line-up: the Drumstix titanium support rods. Available in 15mm and 19mm diameters, let’s take a look at these new lightweight (yet robust) set of rods. Harder Lighter Stronger Usually, 15 or 19mm camera rods are either stainless steel, aluminum or carbon fiber. Stainless steel rods are industry standard. They are robust, don’t bend, yet they are a bit heavy. Carbon fiber rods are lighter and also quite rigid, but especially long carbon fiber rods can break when used in cold environments. Finally, stainless steel rods are prone to manufacturing tolerance issues (at least from my experience) and can bend more easily. Bright Tangerine decided to follow another path.
