Workflow

The place to discuss (or look for reference on) how the film will be conceived, filmed, finished and delivered.

Pre-Production

a) Make working groups, This doesn't mean there could not be a one man project if you live in a place where there are no P-V members, I suppose each one has a personal working group. (by @andres) - “Aye” @driftwood (could be interesting)

b) Cloud funding via paypal, funding for 50gb cloud to store the .mts files, “Aye” for the ones that can donate some money, (by @driftwood)

  1. “Aye” @TraumManufaktur
  2. “Conditional Aye” @RRRR *With the right timing it could be possible to get some additional finance from some sources which I think could be into supporting the project.
  3. “Aye” @atticusd
  4. “Aye” @thepalalias
  5. “Aye” @chef
  6. “Aye” @driftwood
  7. “Aye” @elenion

c - option 01)Scriptwriting in the cloud, via Celtx Studio (opensource, but cloudservice by subscription https://studio.celtx.com/#/studio/nav-pricing for the rates), “Aye” for the ones that can donate some money (by @atticusd & @lolo)

  1. “Aye” @atticusd
  2. “Aye” @driftwood

c - option 02)Scripwriting by only one person, but reviewed by all (by @thepalalias)

d)I think we should build more stages into the script development. Proposed process: (by @B3Guy)

  1. NOW: Brainstorming time. Anyone can write a screenplay idea and put it up on the page, but it must be a decently full idea to go on this page, no 1-sentence suggestions. You are not necessarily saying you will write the script at this point. All ideas are welcome.
  2. What we like best. We break each idea down into their different parts, and poll for what everyone likes the most. (I say break into parts, because some might like a character attribute from one and the plot from another.) we can poll in categories, like “plot” “character attributes” as well as “best overall script”.
  3. Compilation. Some selected people (poll?) work up new script ideas, keeping in mind the results of the polls on the preliminary brainstorm AND polls concerning locations (see below)
  4. A single script idea is chosen by poll
  5. Anyone is welcome to try their hand at a full-blown script following the chosen script idea.
  6. Rather than try to mash full scripts together, a single full script is chosen.
  7. Rather there is a final stage where the full script is open for revision, but revisions must be approved.

Let me know what you think of this roadmap. I tried to come up with something that begins very open but becomes more individual in the end, hopefully resulting in everyone getting their 2c in, but with the work of one person harmonizing the pile of ideas. Also, I think we need to take serious stock NOW of who (if anyone) is capable of actually writing us a script for a feature. It can be sparse on certain aspects, to be sure (due to our unique situation), but nonetheless, there ought to be good plot built into the script and dialogue/narration, and there ought to be sufficient roadmappery to get us up to our target length.

e) Along with the development of the script, we need locations firmed up for the final writer.(by @B3Guy):
Proposed process:

  1. Separate Locations Page
  2. Anyone can submit locations
  3. Must have pictures

If we build ourselves a process to keep on track along the way, we'll be more likely to get something in the end. Many hands/ideas can make light work if organized correctly.

Production

Post-Production

a) Each director sends their original (ungraded) MTS files to the editor after they complete their shoot. This gives the editor more time to prepare the files, rather than having to wait for everyone to finish. (by @thepalalias)

b) Sequence for the editing is specified in script. Each director specifies additional considerations for the editor when they submit their material. Each editor has a great deal of autonomy within each sequence. (by @thepalalias)

c) In order to remain free, files can be transferred through DropBox (or someone else can suggest a better service, with the condition being “semi-permanent low-price storage with privacy”). DropBox starts at 2GB free. (by @thepalalias)

d) After the editor finishes, he hands off the final cut to the color timer/grader. (by @thepalalias)

e) At some point, somebody gets named the custodian of the project so that each person (the editor, the grader, etc.) knows who to go to if there are any problems or questions. (by @thepalalias)
